Too few women in European research, says report
Too few women in European research, says report
Barely one in ten researchers in European industry are women, according to a report by a group of experts led by Helga Rubsamen-Waigman, Bayer vice-president.
The report to the European Commission urges greater efforts to promote scientific careers among young women, modify recruitment cultures in companies and public research bodies, facilitate balancing professional and family life and develop the exchange of information on good practice.
Finland and Ireland, at 18 and 28 per cent respectively, have the highest proportions of women in research in Europe.
