A standard range of Glacier SY bearings is now available for general industrial applications in the UK. Glacier SP and SY materials have been used extensively for many years, with SP available as a standard range and SY to special order, mainly to the automotive industry. Following experience in France where a standard range of SY bushes and thrust washers has been available for some time and proved particularly useful for high-load, oscillating-motion, grease-lubricated applications in industrial and agricultural machinery, Glacier Industrial Bearings has decided to make this range available in the UK.

Glacier SY bearing material consists of a steel backing for strength and dimensional stability with a bearing layer of 80/10/10 lead bronze. It is able to support loads up to 300N/mm2 and provides a high resistance to seizure, particularly when grease lubricated. To provide optimum grease distribution in the loaded area the bearing surface is provided with a pattern of grease reservoir indentations. Standard stock bushes are available to suit shafts from 10mm to 150mm in diameter. Although bearing life is always influenced by shaft surface finish, SY is more tolerant than most alternative materials.
