Learning goes global at Unilever

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 45, Issue 4

A consumer-goods conglomerate with operations in more than 100 countries has adopted mobile learning as a part of an initiative to reach its employees around the world.

Unilever will work with Upside Learning to convert Unilever’s existing e-learning courses into a mobile-compatible format. These HTML-based courses will then be delivered on iPad, iPhone and Android devices.

The second part of the solution is Upside2Go, Upside Learning’s mobile-learning platform. Unilever will use this platform to manage and deliver the converted HTML-based m-learning courses for its global learners. Upside2Go will enable Unilever’s employees to gain access these courses on their mobile devices, irrespective of place and time.

As m-learning at Unilever matures, Upside2Go’s range of features will also enable the company’s training administrators to establish priority communication with its learners in the form of push notifications and deliver performance support in the form of videos, podcasts, documents and flashcards. Knowledge-sharing components like discussion forums and photo, video and podcast-sharing can also be used to enable informal learning in the future.

Amit Gautam, director of technology solutions at Upside Learning, said: “We are glad to get an opportunity to serve a conglomerate like Unilever, which has established its presence in every corner of the world and so in our day-to-day life. We are confident that, by opting for our m-learning solutions, Unilever will be able to achieve its goal of delivering training to its large global audience.”
