Rok hits the road with intranet training

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 40, Issue 4.

Building and maintenance firm Rok hit the road in three mobile-training units to deliver an intranet-training program to around 1,600 employees.

Featuring special Rok branding, the information-technology suites were used for a UK tour of Rok offices, taking computer-training equipment directly to thousands of Rok employees.

The coaching helped staff to learn more about the firm's Roknet system, which gives access to the Rok Way, the company's system of operational guidelines and advice, and a virtual chill-out zone where employees can post news and views. The Roknet system also enables users to personalize the site to suit their role in the business.

The company teamed up with PC Coaching to deliver the training. PC Coaching IT trainers worked alongside Rok's internal trainer. This additional external training resource freed Rok personnel to focus on the skill-program content.

Leaving their offices, employees boarded the learning units to complete a short course on how to use the Roknet system.

Mike Perry, Rok change director, said:

We regularly use innovative ways to develop the business and this latest scheme allowed us to do just that. The mobile IT units were equipped with the latest computer-training tools, so our people could learn more about our new intranet system in a tailor-made environment, in a way that was both cost and time-effective. The Roknet tour illustrated our commitment to training our people, and our desire to make training engaging and enjoyable.

Phil Gray, PC Coaching project director, commented:

Our trainers were chosen not only for their system knowledge, but also their ability to reflect the Rok culture and values. They “Rokked up” at the company's offices to enable staff to learn more about its Roknet system.

With our mobile-training units, branded to reflect Rok's corporate identity, we helped to ensure a smooth roll-out of the IT training program to Rok employees across the country.
