The hidden danger of touchscreens (health hazards of touchscreen-operated mobile computing devices)

Article Type: Abstracts From: Human Resource Management International Digest, Volume 20, Issue 7

Draws attention to the health hazards of using touchscreen-operated mobile computing devices, such as smartphones and tablet computers other than the well-advertised hazards of using such devices while driving or walking. Explains that these additional hazards of using touchscreen devices such as iPads, iPhones, BlackBerrys, Windows phones and Androids, tend to be overlooked since that are not as dramatic, yet they are even more insidious because most people are not even aware that they exist. Reviews these health hazards, which include: using devices in awkward ways that promote injury; injuries caused by typing and tapping; and eyestrain caused by touchscreen devices. Indicates that health problems from laptops and mobile devices are probably underreported, partly because people do not know about the risks and may attribute symptoms to other causes.ISSN: 1324-5945Reference: 41AL900
