Purpose – Presents an interview with the European HR Director of Energizer (battery manufacturer) on the integration of HR following its merger with Wilkinson Sword. Design/methodology/approach – Notes why the merger took place, his early involvement and why it took four years after the merger for HR integration to take place. Describes the company’s people strategy with its five main themes of capability, people, reward and recognition and culture and leadership. Looks at how he has introduced motivation and brand communication initiatives. Shows how measurement has confirmed the success of these programmes. Findings – Points out that the integration of HR following on from a merger can take time.
