People Management (UK), 10 January 2008, Vol. 14 No. 1, Start page: 34, No. of pages: 3Purpose - Describes the partnership between the UK insurance company, Legal & General, and the trade union, Unite, and asks if the success of this partnership is common to other management-union partnerships. Design/methodology/approach - Explains how the partnership between Legal & General and Unite works and the benefits that both parties get. Reviews recent research hat has looked at how common these types of partnership are, the form that they take, and whether not they benefit employers and trade unions in practice. Findings - Identifies statistics that indicate that 1.4 million employees work for employers who have active partnership agreements but points out that these agreements may not be particularly far-reaching or effective. Points out that little is known about how well partnerships work in practice, citing evidence for both their success and their failure.
