Design/methodology/approach - Underlines the commitment of Nucor to encouraging its employees to come up with product and process improvements. Describes how the companies recruitment and employee development systems support this. Also describes how the company delegates responsibility for most human resource management matters to line managers, its emphasis on team self-management, and the processes it has set up to enable all employees to share any best practice that they have discovered. Findings - Argues that this emphasis on self-management and self-actualization is key to the high motivation of Nucor employees.
