Article Type: Editorial From: Gender in Management: An International Journal, Volume 24, Issue 1
The new journal was formally launched at this year’s British Academy of Management conference in September 2008. Many of the Editorial Advisory Board and the Editorial review Board were present at the event, which provided a forum for discussions around the future direction and development of the Journal. The overriding aim of the journal management team is to continue to increase the academic standard of papers published and to increase the Journal’s global readership. In this respect the changes introduced in the last year appear to be producing results, with an increase in high quality papers.
The Journal is also involved in the promotion of research in gender and management at conferences around the globe and this year Emerald have sponsored a number of best paper awards, these include:
- •
European Academy of Management Conference, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Lindley Lord was awarded best paper in the Gender Equality and Diversity in Management track for her paper “Living in the contested space: academic women’s experience in leadership roles in Australian universities”.
- •
Leadership and Management Studies in Sub-Sahara Africa Conference, Accra, Ghana. Elsie Rotich, an MBA student at the University of Indianapolis, was awarded best paper in the category of Women in management and leadership for her paper “Women, leadership, and management in Sub-Sahara Africa: an overview”. The paper was co-authored by Karlisha D. Russell and Jeffrey P. Miller, of the University of Indianapolis.

British Academy of Management conference, Harrogate, UK. Professor Gary Powell and Professor Jeffery Greenhaus were awarded the best paper in the Gender and Management track for their paper “Effects of sex on work-to-family conflict and enrichment: the role of gender self-schema and work family boundaries”.
The Journal will continue to promote new and innovative research, encouraging contributions that make a significant impact on current theory and academic knowledge for an international audience.
