Adding value to part-time work
Keywords Students, Part-time work, Hospitality industry
Every year, more than 100,000 university students work part time in the hospitality industry. Now the Hotel and Catering International Management Association, with funding from the Department for Education and Employment, has developed a scheme to give both employers and students added benefit from their casual or part-time work.
The Hospitality Adding Value for Education project seeks to enable all university students who work part time during vacations in the hospitality industry to develop and provide evidence of their employability skills. Each student receives a pack which encourages them to reflect on what they have learned while undertaking work in the hospitality industry. It also helps individual students to demonstrate skills such as communication and working with others. There is also a recruiter information sheet that the student can show to prospective employers in any industry sector.
