MAKING THE MOST OF: MUESLI
Abstract
Before the advent of Alpen, it is safe to say that muesli was a relatively unknown quantity, the type of product, in fact, that was more at home in a health food shop alongside the ginseng and herbal remedies than on the breakfast table in the average home alongside the teapot. Launched in 1971 by Weetabix Limited, Alpen rapidly became a firm favourite and to many consumers this brand name has become the generic term for muesli. The name ‘Alpen’ was cleverly chosen to suggest the healthy outdoor life and envigorating mountain air, as well as slipping off the British tongue so much more easily than the Swiss word, muesli!
