Live wire in search of a bright spark
Abstract
Starting with £2,000 borrowed from a relative, Jack Bowthorpe has built his company into a £40 million leader in the electrical components industry. Growth hasn't diminished his paternalistic approach, and he believes zany humour can bring out ‘a chap's real character’. At 67 Bowthorpe is still very much in control, but he realises that the time is coming to find a successor; someone, he tells Ken Gooding, who will provide that vital management drive.
