TEN YEARS OF TRIBOLOGY: THE STORY OF THE BIRTH AND GROWTH OF A NEW AND VITAL SCIENCE IN JUST ONE DECADE
Abstract
ON March 9, 1966, a new concept in industry was born—Tribology. It deals with the very practical problems of rolling, sliding and rubbing surfaces. In other words there is no mechanism, no machine—not even the human machine—which can operate without involving the principles of tribology. Its application is estimated to have saved British industry already in the order of £300 million per annum.
