Abstract

The European Space Tribology Laboratory (ESTL) is operated for the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) (Agence Spatiale Européenne) by the National Centre of Tribology at Risley, Warrington, Lancs. Work carried out here includes the testing of satellites under conditions which reproduce closely those encountered in space, and research on the processes of tribology in extreme vacuum. The following is an updated extract from Industries Atomique et Spatiales (2, 1974) by Dr E. J. Robbins, Manager of ESTL and a Principal Scientific Officer of UKAEA.
