Abstract

The design and construction of a successful modern aircraft makes the highest demands on engineering techniques, demands which are not equaled in any other field. An aircraft flies only because it is refined in design and manufactured to the limit of its builder's knowledge and its usefulness as a means of transportation direct proportion to the builder's skill in weight reduction and in the extraction of the maximum possible power per pound of power unit weight.
