Abstract
The issue of TBT in antifoulant paints has been the subject of several proposals in the United States Congress. Just recently, an amended version of H.R. 2210 was enacted into law as Public Law 100–333. This law established an interim prohibition on the sale and use of any organotin‐containing antifoulant paint having a standard release rate greater than 4.0 mcg/cm2 /day. It also strictly prohibits the use of any TBT containing marine coating on vessels less than 25 metres or 82 ft in length (exempting aluminium hull vessels and the outboard motor or lower drive unit of a vessel less than 25 metres in length).
