Abstract

Spencer Paints & Wallcoverings was formed in 1901 and has been supplying the marine, industrial, agricultural and decorative paint markets for many years. Being based in Aberdeen, they are the most northerly of paint manufacturing companies, the nearest competitors being in the Glasgow and Edinburgh central belt. They claim a unique service of being able to supply most types of paint from 5–5,000 litres within 48 hours, including special colours and qualities, with a supplementary back‐up of putties, sealants and wallpaper. Recent technical improvements have helped in their ability to supply quickly, and most of the formulations are prepared using base/concentrate wet‐blending techniques which allow maximum flexibility in manufacture.
