Abstract

The first examinations for part II of the City and Guilds 500 series of craft studies courses will be taken this month. John Millington, head of the engineering department of Henley College of Further Education, Coventry, discusses in this article the courses and how they are being taught in his college. He concludes that the course aims are realistic and well conceived, but that they have presented problems and challenges to teachers and colleges. In meeting these challenges, however, a systematic and effective teaching process has been adopted. The courses themselves are designed to complement industrial training. They consist of a one‐year common base course leading to part I and a two‐year more advanced series of courses leading to part II.
