The education of technician engineers
Abstract
The training recommendations issued by the EITB for Technician Engineers is an imposing document and requires careful appraisal for it undoubtedly presents a pattern of training that is to be with us for some time. The progressive nature of the job is recognized in the introduction to the recommendations where the technician engineer is not only to be capable of applying proven technique but his expertise must also be expected to ‘change and develop’. Out of this specification comes the requirement ‘that his education and training provide both a high level of expertise in his particular field and a broad base of skill and knowledge from which he can adapt himself to change’.
