Purpose – Reports research carried out by Training Journal and Academy28 which examined the behavioural preferences of UK trainers, comparing their behaviour preferences with those of managers. Design/methodology/approach – Describes the methods used to generate the personality profiles of the trainers and managers, and discusses how well the profiles of the two groups matched each other. Analyses how behavioural preferences affected preferences for particular learning and training styles. Lastly discusses the implications for trainers’ training styles. Findings – Highlights the different behavioural preferences of trainers and how these affect their preferred training styles. Argues that this type of analysis should also be used by trainers because they need to understand the preferences of their learner groups. Research limitations/ implications – Outlines the research methods. Originality/value – Analyses how the behavioural preferences of trainers inform their training styles.
