IPC have released the Allegro GenCAM Creator, which is designed to support the latest version of IPC-2511, Generic Requirements for Implementation of Product Manufacturing Description Data and Transfer Methodology, also known as GenCAM 1.5.

Created by OHIO Design Automation, Inc., and used in conjunction with Cadence's Allegro PCB CAD system, the Allegro GenCAM Creator produces GenCAM files directly from Allegro's menu selection.

"OHIO has supported the development of the GenCAM specification since before its 1.0 release", says Dieter Bergman, IPC director of technology transfer. "OHIO truly understands the value of GenCAM's ability to provide a format for communicating intelligent design data throughout the entire product lifestyle".

GenCAM describes printed circuit boards, printed board assembly, BGA and CSP products with all the information needed for tooling, manufacturing, assembly, inspection and testing requirements. Menu-driven from within the Allegro PCB CAD system, GenCAM files can be automatically created based on specific target manufacturing parameters.

"GenCAM is a comprehensive description of a PCB design without becoming so verbose that it is not commercially applicable", says OHIO president and CEO, John Lane. "GenCAM provides a great platform for sharing design intent with individuals in test, manufacturing or anyone outside the original CAD department".

Allegro GenCAM Creator's easy-to-use forms help the user enter data supported by the GenCAM format that drives down-stream fabrication, assembly and test processes. The program automatically fills out the information contained within the database and allows the user to supplement additional data.
