IPC's newly formed E-Business and Supply Web Committee announced the release of its White Paper, "The myths of e-commerce", which debunks some of the traditional beliefs associated with e-commerce/e-business.
Each section of the 26-page report is intended to respond to widely held misconceptions about e-business/e-commerce, including:
- •
e-commerce is primarily about technology;
- •
e-commerce will replace purchasing;
- •
e-commerce is a zero-sum game;
- •
e-business represents interesting opportunities, but for the distant future;
- •
e-commerce is only about exchanges.
Also included in the report is a chapter entitled, "How e-commerce can provide significant benefits to the supply chain".
PartMiner.Com vice-president operations/quality and IPC e-business committee member Guy Hayden sees great potential for those who subscribe to the committee's beliefs.
"Companies that embrace e-business as a pervasive business philosophy will be the winners in the new economy", says Hayden. "Implementing an e-commerce strategy into all departmental processes will yield significant flexibility and efficiencies not previously thought possible".
The report boasts a very unique style, with each section written by members of the committee including authors from: Cimnet Systems, FastParts.Com, PartMiner.Com, Circuit Technology Center, Interconexus, TheSupply. Com and WebQuote.Com
The White Paper is available free to members at IPC's Web site, www.ipc.org and is available to non-members for $10 a copy.
