Spreadable Fats (Marketing Standards) Regulations 1999
Spreadable Fats (Marketing Standards) Regulations 1999
The UK has secured a derogation to the requirements of Commission Regulation 577/97 on spreadable fats and dairy designations which lowered the minimum milk fat content for brandy, rum and sherry butters to 20 per cent. In this respect, a further Commission Regulation, 568/1999 (Official Journal L70, 17.3.99, p 11), has now been published. The requirements of this Regulation are directly applicable in all Member States but further amendment of the Spreadable Fats (Marketing Standards) Regulations 1995 is required to ensure enforcement and execution provisions. As there are already three amending Statutory Instruments (SIs), this opportunity is being taken to consolidate the 1995 Regulations.
In view of devolution, it has been decided that the new SI will cover England only. Similar, but separate Regulations will be made in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
