Modular success boosts new jobs

Up to 50 jobs are expected to be created in Birmingham, UK, as part of an ambitious growth strategy announced by one of the UK's leading automation specialist, Modular Industries.

Following a recent £1 million expansion of the group's headquarters on the Small Heath Business Park, the company is set to recruit a number of skilled staff during the next 12 months to cope with the anticipated demand in the automated assembly market. The appointments, ranging from project managers through to technicians and mechanical engineers, will be made throughout the group's four specialist divisions Modular Automation, Modular Handling, Modular Welding and Modular Precision.

Development of group operations will also see the appointment of both a finance director and human resource manager to oversee the implementation of key business strategies. With a healthy order book and with annual turnover expected to top £30 million by the year 2000, the group is ideally positioned to consolidate its status as the leading automation assembly specialist in both domestic and overseas markets. School leavers are also set to benefit as the group is planning to expand its successful modern apprentice scheme to give budding engineers the opportunity to work alongside some of the industry's top project managers.

Increased confidence in the manufacturing sector is just one of the factors identified by group chairman, David Cockayne, for trebled growth of the group in the last five years: "We have noted an increased willingness in the manufacturing markets to invest in their production processes and that has played a big part in our impressive growth. Moreover, we have invested heavily in people and their skills during the last five yeats and the tangible benefits are clear to see. 1 am delighted to announce this further investment in our human resources?"

This recruitment drive is setting an example to other West Midlands employers to have confidence in the market, because, as David Cockayne suggests, "the market will then have confidence in you".
