Strategic alliances: the offspring of their parents
Abstract
Posits that there are four basic motives for forming strategic alliances: first, whether the business is a core or peripheral part of the parent organization's activities; second, whether the parent is a leader or follower in this particular business area — these are the two dimensions the four basic motives are extracted from. Uses figures for further explanation and emphasis. Concludes that, since alliances are an expression of their parent's strategies, it is the parental perspective that will determine the way these issues are resolved.
