Abstract
Comments on the use of mastics and sealants in building construction. Speculates that there were unrealistic claims made about the products. Discusses cause and effect of seal failures. Explains how preventive maintenance can avoid problems of water seepage. Offers and comments upon photographic examples of sealant failure. Concludes that regular inspection will warn of an impending problem and save money. Warns that remedial work should be carried out by a specialist firm.
