Obesity
Abstract
Obesity, and the related health problems, continue to be a general population trend. Discusses the relevance of the two methods of defining and measuring obesity using: (1) weight for height tables; and (2) Body Mass Indexes. Shows that the latter provides the more accurate measure. Studies indicate that 40‐45 per cent of adult men and 32 per cent of women are overweight. Five per cent of children are overweight at seven years of age. Discusses methods of weight loss and general principles behind safe and sustained weight loss; and the role of dietitians in helping patients, promoting good health, education and providing information and advice
