Abstract
Explains how DHL International is reshaping a highly successful transport company of today into a service provider of logistics solutions for tomorrow. Explores the significance of value‐added services – the term “courier” is no longer applicable in today′s competitive global environment, where speed is the essence. Transport, inventory management and location of warehousing all now contribute towards the ultimate in customer service with the emphasis on cost‐effectiveness. Transport solutions have now replaced the movement of freight as a mission concept, involving staff training, changes in organizational structure, joint charter operations, express logistics centres, all logistics innovations being driven by IT. Sees express distribution as the core business of the future.
