The Creation of Market Niches through Information in a Changing South Africa
Abstract
Shows that successful businesses today are market‐led rather than production‐driven with attention being paid to quantity, quality and regularity of supply. Suggests successful businesses need information systems to create niches in the market, and states that priority should be given data creation, collection and processing. Indicates that more up‐to‐date information is needed on literacy rates, poverty levels, school enrolment (to name a few) among black South Africans. Gives methods on how to improve information systems in South Africa and reveals how an information revolution has begun in some South African companies. Concludes that the current political upheaval in South Africa is a prerequisite to investment in business.
