Abstract
Purpose
A self-adaptive piston is designed for the compressional gas cushion press nanoimprint lithography system. It avoids the lube pollution and high wear of traditional piston.
Design/methodology/approach
The self-adaptive piston device consists of symmetrical piston bodies, piston rings and other parts. The two piston bodies are linked by a ball-screw. The locking nut adjusts the distance between two piston bodies to avoid the piston rings from being stuck. The piston rings are placed between two piston bodies.
Findings
The simulation results based on COMSOL indicate that cylinder vibration caused by self-adaptive piston is 15.9 times smaller than the one caused by a traditional piston.
Originality/value
The self-adaptive piston is superior to the traditional piston in decreasing cylinder vibration.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the effect of consumer inertia – a tendency to adhere to prior purchase decisions despite the existence of preferable alternatives – on the relationships between switching costs and customer retention, and explain the controversy within them in the context of budget hotels.
Design/methodology/approach
An empirical test was conducted via structural equation modelling based on 337 self-administered questionnaires from customers at six of Chinese popular budget hotels.
Findings
Consumer inertia was a significant mediator between switching costs and customer retention. Specifically, consumer inertia completely mediated the effects of financial switching costs on customer retention, but partially did between procedural switching costs and customer retention. By introducing consumer inertia, the explanatory power of customer retention improved significantly by 19%.
Originality/value
This paper clarifies the effects of multiple dimensions of switching costs on customer retention via the mediating role of consumer inertia and partly addresses the inconsistency in the prior studies from an inertia perspective.

Abstract
Purpose
Since stock return and volatility matters to investors, this study proposes to incorporate the textual sentiment of annual reports in stock price crash risk prediction.
Design/methodology/approach
Specific sentences gathered from management discussions and their subsequent analyses are tokenized and transformed into numeric vectors using textual mining techniques, and then the Naïve Bayes method is applied to score the sentiment, which is used as an input variable for crash risk prediction. The results are compared between a collection of predictive models, including linear regression (LR) and machine learning techniques.
Findings
The experimental results find that those predictive models that incorporate textual sentiment significantly outperform the baseline models with only accounting and market variables included. These conclusions hold when crash risk is proxied by either the negative skewness of the return distribution or down-to-up volatility (DUVOL).
Research limitations/implications
It should be noted that the authors' study focuses on examining the predictive power of textual sentiment in crash risk prediction, while other dimensions of textual features such as readability and thematic contents are not considered. More analysis is needed to explore the predictive power of textual features from various dimensions, with the most recent sample data included in future studies.
Originality/value
The authors' study provides implications for the information value of textual data in financial analysis and risk management. It suggests that the soft information contained within annual reports may prove informative in crash risk prediction, and the incorporation of textual sentiment provides an incremental improvement in overall predictive performance.

Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, chemical analysis, metallographic observation, visual examination and scanning electron microscope examination, corrosion products analysis and working conditions analysis were adopted for determining the reasons for the failure of the condenser.
Findings
The results indicated that TA2 titanium pipe perforation failure is caused by the synergistic effect of crevice corrosion and deposit corrosion. The corrosion processes can be divided into three steps.
Originality/value
This research is an originality study on the failure case of a commercially pure titanium air conditioning condenser. This study makes up for the shortage of titanium alloy failure cases and also gives the result of the failure reason and failure mechanism for titanium, which has an engineering significance.

Corrosion experiments of the Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG)-welded aluminum alloy structure were conducted under both mild and accelerated corrosion conditions by changing the water content in N2O4.
Findings
The experimental results indicated that both general and accelerated corrosion processes of the TIG-welded structure of aluminum alloy 2219 in N2O4 followed the linear equation ΔW = A + Bt, and the corrosion products were unchanged regardless of the water content in the N2O4 solution.
Originality/value
The weight loss comparison method is used to identify the structure of the conventional aluminum welding and aluminum welding structure corrosion dinitrogen tetroxide in nitric acid accelerated corrosion relationship.

Purpose
Sinusoidal signals are often used as the inputs of the six degree of freedom (DOF) motion simulator platforms. The purpose of this paper is to propose a fuzzy incremental controller (FIC) to improve sinusoidal signal tracking performances of an electrohydraulic Gough-Stewart platform (GSP).
Design/methodology/approach
An FIC is proposed to control an electrohydraulic GSP without any model parameters. The FIC output can be self-organized by only using the hydraulic actuator position information. The control rules are determined by a systematic deterministic method.
Findings
Experimental results show that the proposed FIC is valid and can achieve better tracking performances compared with classical PID controller and a decoupling controller (a model-based controller).
Originality/value
An FIC using a systematic deterministic rule-base determination method is proposed to improve sinusoidal signal tracking performances of electrohydraulic GSP.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present systematic optimal design procedures for the Gough-Stewart platforms used as engineering motion simulators.
Design/methodology/approach
Three systematic optimal design procedures are proposed to solve the engineering design problems for the Gough-Stewart platform used as motion simulators. In these systematic optimal design procedures, two contradicting design optimality criteria with good representations of performances of the Gough-Stewart platforms are chosen as the objective functions. In addition, the two objective function optimization problems are solved by using the multi-objective evolutionary algorithms.
Findings
In the systematic optimal design procedures, multiple compromised design solutions are found by using Elitist Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm version II in the primary design stage, and many candidates can be used in the secondary design stage for higher decisions. Two higher decision methods have been presented to choose the final solutions.
Originality/value
This paper proposes three systematic optimal design procedures to solve the practical design problems of the Gough-Stewart platforms used as motion simulators, which are very important for the engineering designers.

Abstract
This paper describes the organic geochemical characteristics and their roles on barium enrichment in the No. 2 Coal from Huanglong Jurassic Coalfield, China. A total of 18 bench samples were taken from Huangling Mine 2. The average content of barium (3701 mg/kg) was about 23 times higher than that of common world coals. Terrestrial higher plants were the main coal-forming parent material. Relying on the parameters of OEP, Pr/Ph and so on, there is little correlation between organic geochemical characteristics and barium enrichment. Therefore, organic material has little influence on the process of coal-forming and the enrichment of barium.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of doping element on the microwave absorption performance of hexagonal nano boron nitride (h-nBN)-reinforced basalt fabric (BF)/epoxy composites. A new type of hybrid composite that will be produced by the use of boron nitride as an additive that leads to increased radar absorption capability will be developed and a new material that can be used in aeronautical radar applications.
Design/methodology/approach
This study is focused on the microwave absorption properties of h-nBN doped basalt fabric-reinforced epoxy composites. Basalt fabric (BF)/epoxy composites (pure composites) and the BF/h-nBN (1 Wt.% h-nBN doped composites) hybrid composites were fabricated by vacuum infusion method. Phase identification of the composites were performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), the 2θ scan range was from 10 to 60 with the scanning speed of 3°/min and surface morphologies of the composites were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Microwave properties of samples were investigated through transmission/reflection measurements in Agilent brand 2-Port PNA-L Network Analyzer in the frequency range of 3–18 GHz. The prepared sample is positioned between two horn antennas with and without metal plate.
Findings
Experimental results show that h-nBN doped composite was synthesized successfully and the produced hexagonal nano boron nitride-added fiber laminated composite material has good absorption behavior when they are used with metallic sheets and good for isolation applications at many points in the 3–18 GHz band.
Originality/value
This paper will contribute to the literature on the use of basalt fabric, which are new types of fibers, and hexagonal nano boron nitride and the effects of boron nitride on radar absorption properties of composite material. It presents detail characterization of each composite by using XRD and scanning electron microscopy.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to research as to how Twitter is influential as an electronic word-of-mouth (e-WOM) communication tool and thereby affecting movie market. In present days, social media is playing an important role in connecting people around the globe. The technology has provided a platform in the social media space for people to share their experiences through text, photos and videos. Twitter is one such online social networking media that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as “tweets”. Twitter has nearly 200 million users and billions of such tweets are generated by users every other day. Social media micro-blogging broadcasting networks such as Twitter are transforming the way e-WOM is disseminated and consumed in the digital world. Twitter social behaviour for the Hollywood movies has been assessed across seven countries to validate the two basic blocks of the honeycomb model – sharing and conversation. Twitter behaviour was studied for 27 movies in 22 different cities of seven countries and for six genres with a total tweets of 9.28 million. The difference of Twitter social media behaviour was compared across countries, and “sharing” and “conversation” as two building blocks of the honeycomb model were studied. t-Test results revealed that the behaviour is different across countries and across genres.
Design/methodology/approach
The objective of the paper is to analyse Twitter messages on an entertainment product (movies) across different regions of the world. Hollywood movies are released across different parts of the world, and Twitter users are also in different parts of the world. The objective is to hence validate “conversation” and “sharing” building blocks of the honeycomb model. The research is confined to analysing Twitter data related to a few Hollywood movies. The tweets were collected across nine different cities spanning four different countries where English language is prominent. To understand the Twitter social media behaviour, a crawler application using Python and Java was developed to collect tweets of Hollywood movies from the Twitter database. The application has incorporated Twitter application programming interfaces (APIs) to access the Twitter database to extract tweets according to movies search queries across different parts of the world. The searching, collecting and analysing of the tweets is a rather challenging task because of various reasons. The tweets are stored in a Twitter corpus and can be accessed by the public using APIs. To understand whether tweets vary from one country to another, the analysis of variance test was conducted. To assess whether Twitter behaviour is different, and to compare the behaviour across countries, t-tests were conducted taking two countries at a time. The comparisons were made across all the six genres. In this way, an attempt was made to obtain a microscopic view of the Twitter behaviour for each of the seven countries and the six genres.
Findings
The findings show that the people use social media across the world. Nearly 9.28 million tweets were from seven countries, namely, USA, UK, Canada, South Africa, Australia, India and New Zealand for 27 Hollywood movies. This is indicative of the fact that today, people are exchanging information across different countries, that people are conversing about a product on social media and people are sharing information about a product on social media and, thus, proving the hypothesis. Further, the results indicate that the users in USA, Canada and UK, tweet more than the other countries, USA and UK being the highest in tweets followed by the Canada. On the other hand, the number of tweets in Australia, India and South Africa are low with New Zealand being the lowest of all the countries. This indicates that different countries’ users have different social media behaviour. Some countries use social media to communicate about their experience more than in some other country. However, consumers from all over the world are using Twitter to express their views openly and freely.
Originality/value
This research is useful to scholars and enterprises to understand opinions on Twitter social media and predict their impact. The study can be extended to any products which can lead to better customer relationship management. Companies can use the Internet and social media to promote and get feedback on their products and services across different parts of the world. Governments can inform the public about their new policies, benefits of governmental programmes to people and ways to improve the Internet reach to more people and also for creating awareness about health, hygiene, natural calamities and safety.
