Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to determine the influence of candidate employees' social media accounts (SMAs) on human resource (HR) professionals' hiring decisions as a job application reference in the tourism industry.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted in tourism businesses, such as hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, bars, and ground-handling service companies. In-depth, open-ended interviews with 16 questions were conducted to gather data face to face between October 15 and December 20, 2021, with 38 HR professionals. The research questions were analyzed using thematic analysis and discussed under three main themes.
Findings
The findings of this study showed that HR managers in the tourism industry generally prefer to examine candidates' SMAs rather than traditional references because they can quickly and cheaply screen many applicants.
Originality/value
Social media (SM) is increasingly used as a crucial channel in recruitment within organizations. This paper contributes by filling a gap in HR management, which empirical studies on the influence of job applicant's SMAs on recruiters' hiring decisions have been limited so far.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to understand the most efficient hotel system and why efficiency varies across years and between the two differing types of hotel businesses in Turkey.
Design/methodology/approach
A data envelopment analysis (DEA) analysis was used to characterise the efficiency of all-inclusive (AI) and bed and breakfast (B&B) hotel businesses with one output (total revenue) and three inputs (labour, food and capital costs). The Malmquist approach is then used to discern changes in total efficiency (TTE) and intertemporal shifts in the efficiency frontier (technological change (Tch)).
Findings
The results reveal that the AI hotel operates at 100% efficiency in the summer and year-round. The B&B hotel business operates at 89.6% with variable constant returns to scale during the summer and with 100% efficiency. The results of the Malmquist approach indicate that the total factor productivity grew in the years 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019, while the other years were marked by inefficiency. Such increases were due to technical efficiency change (TEch) and Tch, which means that managerial and allocative efficiency (AE) were barely achieved. Slight differences were noted in the two time periods (all year and summer), suggesting that the scale of hotel businesses is prepared to operate all year round, and this calls for strategies to mitigate seasonality.
Research limitations/implications
As to avenues for future research, the limitations of this study are threefold. First, the hotel businesses are not parallel in terms of the duration of their service offerings. Future research may consider including an AI hotel business that is in operation for the whole year. Second, businesses in Turkey are sceptical about sharing their data as it is considered confidential. However, to better generalise the results and encourage hoteliers to consider the positive outcomes of such analysis, the number of observations could be increased by considering more hotel businesses in both categories. Third, a mixture of data representing businesses operating in various countries may reflect if the efficiency scores vary internationally.
Practical implications
Overall, AI hotel businesses are more attractive but less efficient than B&B. Furthermore, the external crisis impacts the efficiency of hotel businesses meaning that hotel managers could keep on exploring AI, perhaps educating their hosts not to waste or not offer huge quantities. Hotel managers may also need to enlarge their seasonal activities to ensure more efficiency.
Social implications
Despite the intentions of AI hotel businesses to increase their profitability with a lower level of service quality, this study shows that the AI hotel business is very attractive but not so efficient due to the higher propensity of guests to consume food and beverages in excess that compromises the definition of efficiency as zero waste. AI is very attractive for family groups or those seeking the pleasure of relaxation at seaside resorts and is also very popular in Turkey. On the other hand, the B&B hotel business is more efficient but less attractive.
Originality/value
The contributions of this paper are threefold. First, the authors analysed the efficiency and inefficiency of hotel businesses within nine years of operations. During this period, Turkey experienced first a tourism boom (2011–2014) followed by stagnation and subsequently a sharp decline due to political instability resulting in an (in)direct impact on tourism (2015–2019). Second, the authors compared the efficiency and inefficiency of AI and B&B hotel businesses. Third, the authors examined the effects of hotel management factors to ensure efficiency.

Abstract
Purpose
This study explores the contributions of fly ash, bottom ash and biomass ash from coal and biomass power plants for enhancing circular economy of construction sectors in emerging economies.
Design/methodology/approach
This research investigates their applications in construction, emphasizing their role in reducing environmental impact and promoting circular economy principles. Through a qualitative analysis using data from structured interviews with 41 involved stakeholders, the study highlights the economic and environmental benefits of integrating these by-products into business operations.
Findings
Currently, the cement and concrete industries can successfully adopt almost 100% fly ash, but logistic optimization is necessary to address the wet fly ash problem. The practical applications of bottom ash pose disposal challenges due to their poor adoption. Biomass ash can be alternatively implemented as a soil amendment and fertilization in the agriculture industry while current growth seems significant with the shift to a clean energy policy.
Practical implications
This research underscores the importance of policy support and collaboration between industry stakeholders to maximize the sustainable potential of these by-products in an emerging economy context.
Originality/value
The sustainability development goals (SDGs) were well-established in developing economies. Nevertheless, the literature review indicates that there is a lack of understanding regarding their backgrounds, influencing factors, challenges and practical applications for the circular economy.

Abstract
Purpose
The study investigates the impact of gender and age on the perception of organizational politics among construction professionals in Tamil Nadu, India, a region with unique sociocultural characteristics, which highlights the significance of a diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace.
Design/methodology/approach
A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from 251 construction professionals. The study focused on three key aspects of organizational politics perception: general political behavior, go along to get ahead and pay and promotion policies. Data were examined using descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test and regression analysis with the help of SPSS V23.
Findings
The study reveals that female professionals in the sample may be more sensitive to go along to get ahead and pay and promotion policies than their male counterparts, particularly those aged 29–38. The study also found significant gender-age interactions in organizational politics perception, with females experiencing a greater impact of age on general political behavior, go along to get ahead and pay and promotion policies.
Practical implications
The findings can help managers and practitioners design better interventions and policies to mitigate the negative effects of organizational politics, improve employee satisfaction and performance and foster a more diverse and fair work culture.
Originality/value
This is one of the first studies to explore the influence of gender and age on organizational politics perception in the construction sector, which is characterized by complexity and diversity. The study contributes to the literature on organizational politics and diversity in the construction industry.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to provide a full introduction, new classification, comparison and investigation of the challenges as well as applications of layerless 3D printing, which is one of the industry 4.0 pioneers.
Design/methodology/approach
Given the significance and novelty of uniform 3D printing, more than 250 publications were collected and reviewed in an unbiased and clear manner.
Findings
As a result, the majority of uniform parts printed in polymer form are known up to this point. In a novel division for better researchers’ comprehension, uniform printing systems were classified into three categories: oxygen inhibition (OI), liquid lubrication (LL) and photon penetration (PP), and each was thoroughly investigated. Furthermore, these three approaches were evaluated in terms of printing speed, precision and accuracy, manufacturing scale and cost.
Originality/value
The parameters of each approach were compared independently, and then a practical comparison was conducted among these three approaches. Finally, a variety of technologies, opportunities, challenges and advantages of each significant method, as well as a future outlook for layerless rapid prototyping, are presented.
