Abstract
Purpose
China has a new rural revitalization strategy to stimulate rural transformation through modernizing rural areas and resolving their social contradictions. While social capital is recognized as an important element to rural revitalization and entrepreneurship, research into the role of psychological capital is less developed. Therefore, this paper assesses the impact of both social and psychological capital on entrepreneurial performance of Chinese new-generation rural migrant entrepreneurs (NGRMEs) who have returned to their homes to develop businesses as part of the rural revitalization revolution.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on a survey, data were collected from 525 NGRMEs in Shaanxi province. This paper uses factor analysis to determine variables for a multiple linear regression model to investigate the impacts of dimensions of both social capital and psychological capital on NGRMEs’ entrepreneurial performance.
Findings
Through the factor analysis, social capital of these entrepreneurs consists of five dimensions (reputation, participation, networks, trust and support), psychological capital has three dimensions (innovation and risk-taking, self-efficacy and entrepreneurial happiness) and entrepreneurial performance contains four dimensions (financial, customer, learning and growth, and internal business process). Furthermore, the multiple linear regression model empirically verifies that both social capital and psychological capital significantly influence and positively correlate with NGRMEs' entrepreneurial performance.
Originality/value
This study shows the importance of how a mixture of interrelated social and psychological dimensions influence entrepreneurial performance that may contribute to the success of the Chinese rural revitalization strategy. This has serious implications when attempting to improve the lives of over 100 million rural Chinese citizens.

Abstract
Purpose
There is a pressing need for research on the difference in entrepreneurial performance influenced by the integration of migrant workers’ psychological capital and entrepreneurial opportunity identification. In addition, there is limited research on the association of entrepreneurial performance with different dimensions of psychological capital and how these dimensions affect the entrepreneurial performance of migrant workers. This research will partially address this gap in knowledge by assessing the influence of psychological capital and entrepreneurial opportunity identification on the entrepreneurial performance of migrant workers in China.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper conducts a theoretical analysis of psychological capital, entrepreneurial opportunity identification and entrepreneurial performance and proposes a theoretical model of entrepreneurial opportunity identification acting as the intermediary role between psychological capital and the entrepreneurial performance of migrant workers. Based on the data collected from 899 rural households in Shaanxi Province, a structural equation model and a bootstrap method are used to verify the association between psychological capital, entrepreneurial opportunity identification and entrepreneurial performance.
Findings
Both entrepreneurial opportunity identification and psychological capital are conducive to the improvement of entrepreneurial performance. However, the entrepreneurial opportunity identification is found to exert a more significant impact on the entrepreneurial performance of migrant workers than psychological capital does. Findings have also revealed that the intermediary role of entrepreneurial opportunity identification is more prominent in the relationship between adventure and innovation and the entrepreneurial performance of migrant workers than that of self-confidence and optimism and entrepreneurial performance of migrant workers.
Originality/value
Based on the results of empirical analysis, the paper proposes corresponding policy recommendations for guiding migrant workers to capitalize on their psychological capital, identify entrepreneurial opportunities, weigh up entrepreneurial risks and ultimately improve their entrepreneurial performance.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper was to develop a novel capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT) reception and transmission linear array for underwater imaging at 400 kHz. Compared with traditional CMUTs, the developed transducer array offers higher electromechanical coupling coefficient and higher directivity performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The configuration of the newly developed CMUT reception and transmission array was determined by the authors’ previous research into new element structures with patterned top electrodes and into directivity simulation analysis. Using the Si-Silicon on insulator (Si-SOI) bonding technique and the principle of acoustic impedance matching, the CMUT array was fabricated and packaged. In addition, underwater imaging system design and testing based on the packaged CMUT 1 × 16 array were completed.
Findings
The simulation results showed that the optimized CMUT array configuration was selected. Furthermore, the designed configuration of the CMUT 1 × 16 linear array was good enough to guarantee high angular resolution. The underwater experiments were conducted to demonstrate that this CMUT array can be of great benefit in imaging applications.
Practical implications
Based on our research, the CMUT linear array has good directivity and good impedance matching with water and can be used for obstacle avoidance, distance measurement and imaging underwater.
Originality/value
This research provides a basis for CMUT directivity theory and array design. CMUT array presented in this paper has good directivity and has been applied in the underwater imaging, resulting in a huge market potential in underwater detection systems.

Abstract
Purpose
As one of the omnichannel sales models, “buy online and pick up in store” (BOPS) not only is used in the commercial field but also has gradually attracted many scholars’ interests. However, although there are numerous research ideas, most of the current work is still limited to theoretical and empirical research, and few scholars study BOPS through models. This paper aims to discuss the best market conditions and opportunities for the implementation of BOPS against the backdrop of omnichannel by means of mathematical models and data simulations and discuss the optimal price–service strategies under different sales models.
Design/methodology/approach
First, from the perspective of different consumer shopping types, this paper separately divides consumers into different groups in traditional “dual channel” and BOPS models. Then, the authors analyze the impact of company market size, consumer service sensitivity and the scale of BOPS on companies’ strategies and the profit of the supply chain. Subsequently, they conduct an empirical analysis through specific values. Finally, the authors further expand the model on the basis of the original research, and discuss the retailer’s fairness concerns and unit compensation strategy to ensure that the research content is more rigorous.
Findings
It is observed that whether companies adopt BOPS depends on consumers’ service sensitivity degree and the scale of BOPS consumers and online retailers: when the sensitivity and the proportion of online consumers are high or the number of BOPS consumers is large, it is more advantageous for companies to implement BOPS. Moreover, companies should not only consider the market scale and production cost but also have a precise orientation of consumers’ experience sensitivity and willingness to engage in extra consumption when making price and service strategies. At the same time, the compensation strategy of companies and the peer-regarding fairness concern behavior of offline retailers will affect the optimal price and service strategy in the BOPS model.
Social implications
These results provide managerial insights for companies preparing to implement BOPS and promote the development of relevant theories in the channel field.
Originality/value
At present, most of the research on BOPS is based on empirical reviews. However, this paper analyzes the applicability and feasibility of implementing BOPS by using specific models, and it will provide some reference for companies preparing to implement BOPS. In addition, this paper also discusses the unit compensation strategy and peer-regarding fairness concern behavior in the BOPS model, which have not been studied by relevant scholars.

Abstract
Purpose
This study explored whether crowdsourcing work characteristics are associated with perceived work effort in competitive crowdsourcing markets. The study also investigated the important contextual variables and internal mechanisms related to perceived work effort.
Design/methodology/approach
A questionnaire was posted as a crowdsourcing task on China's Time Fortune website. Data from 231 valid questionnaires were analyzed using SmartPLS 3.
Findings
Crowdsourcing workers' intrinsic and extrinsic motivations were significantly and positively correlated with their perceived work effort. Task autonomy and feedback were significantly and positively correlated with intrinsic motivation. Skill variety, task significance, task identity, and task clarity had no significant correlations with intrinsic motivation. However, task clarity was significantly and positively correlated with perceived work effort. Moreover, the relationship between workers' trust in task requesters and perceived work effort was fully mediated by intrinsic motivation.
Originality/value
This study extended the job characteristic model into the virtual competitive crowdsourcing market. The authors verified the relationship between task clarity/trust in task requesters and workers' motivation and perceived work effort.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to solve the problem of public resource allocation among vulnerable groups by proposing a new method called uncertain α-coordination value based on uncertain cooperative game.
Design/methodology/approach
First, explicit forms of uncertain Shapley value with Chouqet integral form and uncertain centre-of-gravity of imputation-set (CIS) value are defined separately on the basis of uncertainty theory and cooperative game. Then, a convex combination of the two values above called the uncertain α-coordination value is used as the best solution. This study proves that the proposed methods meet the basic properties of cooperative game.
Findings
The uncertain α-coordination value is used to solve a public medical resource allocation problem in fuzzy coalitions and uncertain payoffs. Compared with other methods, the α-coordination value can solve such problem effectively because it balances the worries of vulnerable group’s further development and group fairness.
Originality/value
In this paper, an extension of classical cooperative game called uncertain cooperative game is proposed, in which players choose any level of participation in a game and relate uncertainty with the value of the game. A new function called uncertain α-Coordination value is proposed to allocate public resources amongst vulnerable groups in an uncertain environment, a topic that has not been explored yet. The definitions of uncertain Shapley value with Choquet integral form and uncertain CIS value are proposed separately to establish uncertain α-Coordination value.

Abstract
Purpose
Embedding carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) bars in the tension zone of reinforced concrete (RC) beams is a widely used reinforcement method, which has the advantages of strong anti-peel ability and high utilization of tensile materials. To further improve the flexural bearing capacity of RC beams, a new composite reinforcement method using the UHPC layer in the compressive zone of RC beams is proposed based on embedding CFRP bars in the tension zone of RC beams.
Design/methodology/approach
The finite element model of an RC experimental beam with CFRP bars embedded in the tension zone was carried out by ABAQUS. Besides, the reliability of the finite element model results was verified by comparing with the experimental results. On this basis, the flexural reinforcement effect of CFRP bars and UHPC layers on RC beams was analyzed.
Findings
Calculation results show the flexural bearing capacity of the beam strengthened by the new method is 15.9%, which is higher than that of the unreinforced beam, and 10.4% higher than that of the beam strengthened only with CFRP bars. The beam ductility ratio of the new method is 8.25%, which is slightly higher than that of the unreinforced beam and equal to that of the beam reinforced only with CFRP bars embedded in the tension zone. The effectiveness of the new method is further verified by using the analytical calculation method.
Originality/value
A new flexural reinforcement method for reinforced concrete beams is proposed, and the effectiveness of the method was verified by experiments and finite element model. The flexural bearing capacity and ductility of the new method were analyzed based on the load-deflection curve. Finally, the possibility of the new method was verified by analytical analysis.

Abstract
Purpose
Against the background of industrialisation and modernisation of agriculture, food production issues and environmental hazards have become more and more obvious and consumers are increasingly concerned about food safety and health, which is strengthening demand for organic food. E-commerce provides a new channel for sales. Research on consumer trust in online organic food sales is the basis of network marketing. The paper aims to discuss these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
A laboratory experiment was used to empirically test the effects of media richness on consumers’ trust and the moderating effect of online review length. A 2×2 factorial design (i.e. two types of online product presentation formats (between-subject)×two levels of online review lengths (between-subject)) was used.
Findings
Media richness has a significant positive effect on consumers’ trust and that this effect is moderated by online review length. Meanwhile, perceived risk conveys the interaction effect of the media richness of online product presentation and online review length to trust.
Practical implications
E-commerce websites should aim to promote organic food by using a variety of online product presentation formats and by presenting high quality online reviews in order to reduce consumers’ perceived risk and improve their degree of trust when buying online.
Originality/value
This paper provides a new insight into consumers’ attitude of buying organic food online. The results of the research could provide proposals for promoting organic food sales online.

Abstract
Purpose
Under the new policy framework, the China Government will substantially increase education resources investment. As a result, financial under‐provision of schools will not be the main problem in the near future. However, school efficiency will emerge as the new factor in attracting the attention of the government and the public in China, which is also one of the important fields of Education Economics research.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors use Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to evaluate a sample of 58 primary schools in six districts in Beijing, hoping to find the solutions to school efficiency improvement as a result of under‐adequate investment.
Findings
In the years to come, the central government of China will continue to enhance transferring payment from the exchequer. The education input will be assured accordingly. However, if schools run under low efficiency, the education resources will not be well used and sustainability of elementary education will not be assured.
Originality/value
In light of the research purpose and the limited data, there has been no in‐depth discussion of the impact of, for example, families' social status, district development disparity, social cultural influence and history context. Obviously, considering more factors which may affect school efficiency will help to find the best solution for the public education sector of government.
