Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the effect of creative process engagement on employees’ in-role performance, and does so by considering the support that employees received from and given to their supervisors.
Design/methodology/approach
Using data from 540 questionnaires collected in China, this paper conducts a hierarchical regression analysis to test the proposed model.
Findings
Creative process engagement positively affects employees’ in-role performance. However, the moderating effect of receiving support on the above relationship is not significant. Instead, it is the interaction of receiving support from and giving it to supervisors that moderates the relationship between creative process engagement and in-role performance.
Research limitations/implications
The study has some contributions to the conservation of resource (COR) theory. The authors find that acquiring new resources such as receiving support from supervisors is not always effective. The acquisition process of resources should be considered with the investment process of resources. According to the COR theory, people invest resources to gain resources and protect themselves from losing resources or to recover from resource loss (Halbesleben et al., 2014). The findings of the study show that employees investing resources is not just for gaining resources. Sometimes, they invest resources such as giving support to supervisors to remain a relatively balanced relationship.
Practical implications
Companies can encourage employees to place more attention on creative process engagement to improve in-role performance. In addition, when offering support to employees, managers should consider whether the employees are able to give it back in response to the received support, and distribute their support to employees accordingly.
Originality/value
This paper explored employee’s engagement at creative process in a more novel way and clarified the relative effect of creative process engagement on in-role performance. Also, this paper was the first to pay attention to the bidirectional nature of supervisor support.

Abstract
Purpose
Previous studies have vague views about whether employees who are required to complete large amounts of work (i.e. role overload) would proactively create a change in their job characteristics (i.e. job crafting), because the cognitive mechanism underlying the nexus between role overload and job crafting is unclear. The aim of this study is to identify why and when role overload has an impact on job crafting.
Design/methodology/approach
This study builds a second-stage moderated mediation model. Using a two-wave panel field study of 213 employee–supervisor matched data, this study examines the proposed hypotheses.
Findings
Results show that role overload decreases construal level, which can determine the tendency of employees to focus on the feasibility (low level of construal) or desirability (high level of construal) of behaviors. Goal self-concordance is the degree to which employees pursue their personal goals based on feelings of personal interests and values. The authors find that goal self-concordance guides employees who have higher levels of construal to exert more effort in job crafting. The authors further find that goal self-concordance moderates the mediating role of construal level. Specifically, for employees in pursuit of self-concordant goals, role overload reduces their construal level, resulting in less effort in job crafting. For employees who do not pursue self-concordant goals, role overload decreases their construal level, thereby improving job crafting.
Originality/value
The findings of this study enrich the literature on role overload and job crafting by revealing the mechanism and boundary conditions of the relationship between role overload and job crafting.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore the mechanism and boundary conditions of authoritarian leadership that influence employee innovation behavior (EIB) in Chinese culture based on the leader–member exchange theory and state–trait theory.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors used Mplus and SPSS to test the proposed model with data from 286 leader–employee dyads in Chinese companies. In this study, questionnaires were collected through commission and field investigation.
Findings
The results indicate that authoritarian leadership can positively influence perceived insider status and EIB within a certain range in Chinese organizational culture, although this is counterintuitive. In addition, perceived insider status has a high level of explanatory power on EIB and can mediate the relationship between authoritarian leadership and EIB. Furthermore, proactive personality can moderate the positive influence of authoritarian leadership on perceived insider status.
Originality/value
Innovation management is inseparable from the specific organizational cultural context. This paper argues that the relationship between authoritarian leadership and EIB in the context of organizational culture in China may differ from that in the west. This study constructs a unique research model and offers new insights into when and how EIB can be influenced by authoritarian leadership.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the relationships between person–job fit and job satisfaction, the mediating role of career self-management and the moderating role of job demands.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, 947 employees were surveyed using questionnaires, and hypothesis testing was conducted using structural equation modeling in Mplus.
Findings
Person–job fit was found to be positively related to career self-management, and career self-management plays a mediating role in the positive relationship between person–job fit and job satisfaction. Statistical analysis also confirmed that job demands moderate both the relationship between person–job fit and career self-management, as well as the relationship between person–job fit and job satisfaction via career self-management.
Research limitations/implications
The results of a single study offer limited generalizability and should thus be applied with caution. More cross-industry and cross-company studies should be conducted to verify the applicability of the findings to other industries, cultures and geographical contexts.
Practical implications
Managers should try to enhance employees' person–job fit and help or encourage them to engage in career self-management to increase job satisfaction. Additionally, managers should be aware of the negative influence of job demands and try to keep them at low levels.
Originality/value
This study extends and enriches the understanding of the positive influence of person–job fit on work outcomes, explores the mechanism of person–job fit on job satisfaction from a new perspective, namely career self-management, and explores the boundary condition (i.e. job demands) of the relationship between person–job fit and career self-management in the Chinese context.

Abstract
In this chapter, we will be describing the situation of minority groups in the labour market and in organizations in Québec and Canada. We will be focussing mainly on the situation of women and ethnocultural minorities. First, we will present a statistical picture of their situation. Second, we will explore in more depth the situation of two ethnocultural groups – the Maghrebians and the French – in Québec, 1 to demonstrate the complexity of the situation of minority groups that cannot be portrayed by statistics alone. Then, third, we will examine some tensions specific to Western societies that have an impact on the dynamics of culturally diverse enterprises. This assessment will show that even though much progress has been made, especially for women, there is still much to do to ensure full equality and greater fairness between minority and majority groups in Québec and Canada. Furthermore, by means of a more qualitative analysis of the situation of these two ethnocultural groups, we will see that statistics do not tell the whole story.

Abstract
Purpose
Climate change is most apparent through the increased severity and frequency of extreme events. Tourism as an activity is particularly sensitive. This paper aims to investigate the impact that climate change has on Xiamen tourism through a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation of questionnaire responses.
Design/methodology/approach
A fuzzy classification system of tourism factors most sensitive to climate change was built on the basis of an analytical hierarchical process.
Findings
A “relatively strong” association grade of the impacts of climate change on tourism was observed. Through fuzzy comprehensive evaluation, the method used has allowed for clear classification of the aspects of tourism, through its development, which are more vulnerable to climate change. The results acquired here can serve as reference material for stakeholders on implementing risk assessments, deepening the understanding of how climate change affects tourism and coordinate the interests of different parties through the achievement of focused development and realize the optimum, long-term and sustainable exploitation of tourism resources.
Originality/value
The sensitivity of a variety of tourist sectors within Xiamen was assessed and represents the newest pre-COVID-19 opinions concerning the effect of climate change on tourism. Additionally, the data used in this study was also collected before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and will serve as an important marker to track how expert opinions of the effects of climate change on tourism change over time.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of the related factors on the mean path length of the Epstein frame and propose a weighted method based on the different specific losses to decide the actual mean path length of the Epstein frame.
Design/methodology/approach
Two Epstein frames of different dimensions (i.e. standard 25 cm and revised 17.5 cm Epstein frame) are used in experiments, and two kinds of the mean path lengths, lm1 and lm2, are defined based on the different specific iron losses produced at the middle part of the limb and the rest of the whole frame, respectively.
Findings
The mean magnetic path varies with many factors such as peak flux density, excitation frequency, permeability as well as the anisotropy of the material under test.
Originality/value
The results play an important role in designing the transformer core and the building factor.

Abstract
Purpose
This study explores privacy challenges in recommender systems (RSs) and how they have leveraged privacy-preserving technology for risk mitigation. The study also elucidates the extent of adopting privacy-preserving RSs and postulates the future direction of research in RS security.
Design/methodology/approach
The study gathered articles from well-known databases such as SCOPUS, Web of Science and Google scholar. A systematic literature review using PRISMA was carried out on the 41 papers that are shortlisted for study. Two research questions were framed to carry out the review.
Findings
It is evident from this study that privacy issues in the RS have been addressed with various techniques. However, many more challenges are expected while leveraging technology advancements for fine-tuning recommenders, and a research agenda has been devised by postulating future directions.
Originality/value
The study unveils a new comprehensive perspective regarding privacy preservation in recommenders. There is no promising study found that gathers techniques used for privacy protection. The study summarizes the research agenda, and it will be a good reference article for those who develop privacy-preserving RSs.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to propose and establish a set of new benchmark models to investigate and confidently validate the modeling and prediction of total stray-field loss inside magnetic and non-magnetic components under harmonics-direct current (HDC) hybrid excitations. As a new member-set (P21e) of the testing electromagnetic analysis methods Problem 21 Family, the focus is on efficient analysis methods and accurate material property modeling under complex excitations.
Design/methodology/approach
This P21e-based benchmarking covers the design of new benchmark models with magnetic flux compensation, the establishment of a new benchmark measurement system with HDC hybrid excitation, the formulation of the testing program (such as defined Cases I–V) and the measurement and prediction of material properties under HDC hybrid excitations, to test electromagnetic analysis methods and finite element (FE) computation models and investigate the electromagnetic behavior of typical magnetic and electromagnetic shields in electrical equipment.
Findings
The updated Problem 21 Family (V.2021) can now be used to investigate and validate the total power loss and the different shielding performance of magnetic and electromagnetic shields under various HDC hybrid excitations, including the different spatial distributions of the same excitation parameters. The new member-set (P21e) with magnetic flux compensation can experimentally determine the total power loss inside the load-component, which helps to validate the numerical modeling and simulation with confidence. The additional iron loss inside the laminated sheets caused by the magnetic flux normal to the laminations must be correctly modeled and predicted during the design and analysis. It is also observed that the magnetic properties (B27R090) measured in the rolling and transverse directions with different direct current (DC) biasing magnetic field are quite different from each other.
Research limitations/implications
The future benchmarking target is to study the effects of stronger HDC hybrid excitations on the internal loss behavior and the microstructure of magnetic load components.
Originality/value
This paper proposes a new extension of Problem 21 Family (1993–2021) with the upgraded excitation, involving multi-harmonics and DC bias. The alternating current (AC) and DC excitation can be applied at the two sides of the model’s load-component to avoid the adverse impact on the AC and DC power supply and investigate the effect of different AC and DC hybrid patterns on the total loss inside the load-component. The overall effectiveness of numerical modeling and simulation is highlighted and achieved via combining the efficient electromagnetic analysis methods and solvers, the reliable material property modeling and prediction under complex excitations and the precise FE computation model using partition processing. The outcome of this project will be beneficial to large-scale and high-performance numerical modeling.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper iaims to investigate the evolution of discourses, claims and actor positions during the German and French examination of legislation aimed at introducing state-mandated website blocking measures of sexual child images (often referred to as “child pornography”).
Design/methodology/approach
The focus lies on the opportunities and difficulties for opponents of internet blocking measures to form discourse coalitions that challenge the frames articulated and normalised by power elites. While critics of mandatory internet blocking were ignored at the outset of the debate, their frames have eventually been adopted and debated by proponents of internet blocking in Germany.
Findings
Activists successfully criticised the effectiveness of introducing internet blocking measures, which led to the final abandonment of the bill. In France, the debate remained largely confined to online media, where critics voiced their opposition but did not succeed in influencing the broader policy agenda, which was primarily concerned with security issues. Both cases offer important insights for the study of internet filtering and blocking from a comparative perspective.
