Abstract
Purpose
Denim, a common fade fabric, can present different degrees of fade under different washing conditions. The phenomenon is similar to the washing efficiency. This study aims to discuss the relationship between impact factors and washing efficiency as well as the color fastness.
Design/methodology/approach
JMP software was used to design different experiments and 40 experimental groups were obtained. Then Statistical Package for the Social Sciences was used to analyze the results about washing efficiency and chromatic aberration.
Findings
Results showed that washing temperature, washing time and rotation speed have an effect on color fastness after washing in turn. In a certain range, when washing temperature, washing time or rotation speed increases, color fastness gradually increases as well. These three washing parameters work on washing efficiency as well. After setting and analyzing the mathematical model, the R² between the three washing parameters and washing efficiency is 0.855 and the R² between the three washing parameters and the post-wash chromatic is 0.849. There is a correlation between “Washing Efficiency of Sebum RM (P)” and “Post-wash Chromatic aberration (Q)”.
Practical implications
Denim could be used in some tests in laboratories instead of sebum standard stain cloth.
Originality/value
This paper provides an indirect research and feasible method for exploring a new object instead of the standard pollution cloth in the test of related textile study in the future.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore a descriptive framework for a more structured and objective evaluation of the risk situation of textile and apparel, also to find the best set of methods or optimal scientific grounds for the safety evaluation of textile and apparel.
Design/methodology/approach
Risk analysis theory is used to analyze potential hazard of textile and apparel, weight is given to risk indicators using subjective and objective weighting method, respectively, grading standards of safe risk of textile and apparel is made. Finally a safety risk assessment model of textile and apparel based on support vector machine (SVM) is built, and empirical analysis is also made.
Findings
Quantitative and highly reliable evaluation of textile and apparel risks, relatively easy grading classification and simplicity in operating the evaluation process are the advantages that promote the application of risk assessment model based on SVM for textile and apparel, and empirical analysis showed considerably good applicability.
Practical implications
The research is useful to ensure safety textile and apparel in market, also contributing to the sustainable development of textile industries in future.
Originality/value
SVM as a risk assessment method provided safety evaluation to toxic and harmful substance and small parts in textile and apparel, which can be an effective tool to monitor textile and apparel safety.

Purpose
The study aims to investigate the relationship between transformational, transactional leadership and employee retention with the mediating effect of employee engagement.
Design/methodology/approach
Using judgemental sampling, data were collected from 650 employees serving at different levels in the pharmaceutical industry of Bangladesh. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the hypothesized relationships using AMOS.
Findings
The study found that transformational and transactional leadership significantly impact employee retention. The direct effects of transformational leadership (TFL) on employee engagement were found to be significant, while transactional leadership (TSL) has no significant direct influence on employee engagement. The output of the mediation analysis revealed that employee engagement significantly mediates the relationship between TFL and employee retention, whereas it showed an insignificant relationship between TSL and employee retention.
Practical implications
Based on the findings and the literature support, it can be postulated that an appropriate leadership style, especially TFL, that drives employee engagement can influence employees to stay with the organization longer. The study recommends that managers and leaders comprehend the importance of leadership and its appropriateness to retain valued employees by ensuring high workplace engagement.
Originality/value
The study would provide a unique insight into TFL and TSL practices and their impact on the pharmaceutical industry’s employee retention. This study also extends the research on employee engagement as a mediator between TFL and TSL and employee retention.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper mainly explores the relationship between digital inclusive finance and financing constraints of technological-based SMEs, and how digital inclusive finance affects the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs. This paper empirically analyzes the relationship between them through the OLS model, and then further verifies the relationship between them through robust regression and heterogeneity analysis. At the same time, it uses the mechanism test to explore how digital inclusive finance affects the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs. This paper aims to address these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper aims to explain the relationship between digital inclusive finance and financing constraints of technological-based SMEs. Technology-based SMEs always face the difficult problem of “financing difficulty” and “financing expensive” in the development process, which hinders the survival and development of enterprises to some extent. Digital inclusive finance development policy vigorously promoted by the state has alleviated the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs and brought opportunities for their development.
Findings
The results show that the role of digital inclusive finance in alleviating the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs, and incremental supplement and alleviating information asymmetry are the main reasons for digital inclusive finance to alleviate the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs. In view of the availability of digital inclusive financial data, this paper only uses the data from 2014 to 2019.
Originality/value
The authors’ research clearly found that the development of digital inclusive finance alleviates the financing of technology-based SMEs from the two aspects of “incremental supplement” and alleviating information asymmetry, so as to provide corresponding reference basis for the government to formulate a series of plans to support the development of technology-based SMEs.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the effect of expatriate supervisors’ managerial coaching behavior on local subordinates’ learning effects through the mediating role of subordinates’ thriving at work under the boundary condition of expatriate supervisors’ cultural intelligence.
Design/methodology/approach
This study collected the data form 230 Zambian subordinates and their immediate expatriate supervisors working in the Chinese company in Zambia. Regression analyses and bootstrapping analyses were used to test the authors’ hypothesis.
Findings
The results indicated that expatriate supervisors’ managerial coaching behavior was positively related to local subordinates’ learning effects. In addition, the study also found that local subordinates’ thriving at work mediated the linkage between managerial coaching behavior and learning effects. And expatriate supervisors’ cultural intelligence moderated the indirect relationship between managerial coaching behavior and learning effects via thriving at work, such that the indirect effect was stronger for expatriate supervisors with high rather than low cultural intelligence.
Originality/value
This study contributes to a better understanding of how expatriate supervisors’ managerial coaching behavior influences local subordinates’ learning effects by investigating the mediating effect of thriving at work on the managerial coaching behavior–learning effects link. In addition, the study deepens the understanding of the boundary condition of the associations between managerial coaching behavior and subordinates’ learning effects in a cross-cultural context by investigating the moderating effect of expatriate supervisors’ cultural intelligence.

Abstract
Purpose
Drawing on the Push-Pull-Mooring model, this study sheds light on the factors that drive tourists to switch from traditional hotels to peer-to-peer accommodation (P2PA) in light of the global spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Design/methodology/approach
Data have been collected from 380 participants through an online pan India survey. The data were mainly analyzed by adopting structural equation modeling.
Findings
All the three categories of push, pull and mooring factors are crucial in explaining tourists' switching intentions from hotels to P2PA. Out of all the factors, subjective norm came out to be the most significant factor while satiation (push factor) and authentic experiences (pull factor) also came out to be important indicators.
Practical implications
The findings of this study carry implications for hoteliers as well as P2PA platform hosts. Hotels need to re-conceptualize their standard services, décor and amenities while P2PA hosts need to continue providing authentic experiences and also comply with all the Covid-19 norms.
Originality/value
The study offers a comprehensive PPM model to determine tourists' intentions to switch from hotels to P2PA. Moreover, this paper is one of the early studies to provide insights into tourists' switching intentions amidst Covid-19.

Abstract
Purpose
Clothing quality, performance, safety and health have become important considerations for consumer welfare. Properties of these aspects are encompassed on standards which regulates clothing products reaching consumers. The purpose of this paper is to categorize these aspects in a common platform by suggesting minimum requirements expected on readymade garments from which clothing standards compliance assessment is performed.
Design/methodology/approach
With the aid of standard compliance assessment model, scored Standard Compliance Rate (SCR) values of the discussed properties of clothing standardization are synthesized from a standard compliance matrix, and the compliance of any clothing standards are assessed and assigned a “Standard Compliance Index/Level (SCI/SCL)” ranging from non compliance to full compliance at six levels.
Findings
In reference to the standard compliance assessment model, 12 children and infant clothing standards, three from Kenya and nine from China, and eight protective clothing standards from Kenya, China, Britain and USA, two from each country, were assessed and the compliance level of each standard evaluated and results presented. The results of the study reveal the importance of every aspect of clothing standardization properties to fulfil the requirements of standard compliance assessment whereby, though they meet their role in developing Standard Compliance Index (SCI), they may have different impact depending with the context applied and the scope of every standard.
Research limitations/implications
The selection of standardization parameters and characteristics, and the criteria for scoring some of the Standard Compliance Rating was subjective and may require mutual agreements between relevant bodies. Furthermore, this method can only be applied on clothing standards and not other textile testing standards.
Practical implications
The proposed method can be applied when evaluating and comparing specific clothing standards between bodies or countries. Clothing SCI would be of primary importance as a guide on required clothing quality specifications to designers, manufacturers, standard regulators and consumer welfare bodies.
Originality/value
This research reports the development of an original framework to assess compliance level of any clothing standard using standardization parameters and characteristics considered when determining the quality of a garment. It establishes a theoretical framework of clothing standards compliance assessment, which has not been reported in the literature to date.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the associations between organizational justice dimensions and employees' knowledge sharing (KS) while studying the mediating role of psychological empowerment (PE) in context of the Indian hospitality industry. It is also aimed to investigate the association between KS and innovative work behavior (IWB).
Design/methodology/approach
A mediation model was verified utilizing three-wave survey data from 293 employees working in hotels situated in northern India. Hypotheses were tested using AMOS and PROCESS Model 4.
Findings
There are significant associations between justice dimensions and KS, and PE mediates these relationships. Additionally, employees' KS has a positive effect on their IWB.
Practical implications
Organizations must promote justice and psychologically empower their employees to facilitate KS. Our study also highlights the significance of employees' KS in encouraging their IWBs. HR leaders and managers have an important role in facilitating the right work environment, in which employees experience fairness and empowerment.
Originality/value
This paper is the first to investigate linkages between justice dimensions, PE, KS and IWB in context of the Indian hospitality industry. Furthermore, this study has made the maiden attempt of asserting the mediating role of PE in the relationship between justice dimensions and KS.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the influence of illegitimate tasks on frontline hospitality employees’ in-role and extra-role performance via the mediating role of thriving at work and the moderating role of work centrality.
Design/methodology/approach
Survey data were collected from 264 supervisor–subordinate pairs from three hotels in Jiangsu, China and analyzed using structural equation modeling.
Findings
Illegitimate tasks negatively affected hospitality employees’ in-role and extra-role performance by inhibiting thriving at work. In addition, work centrality strengthened the impact of illegitimate tasks on thriving at work and their indirect effect on in-role and extra-role performance via reduced thriving at work.
Practical implications
First, managers should avoid assignment of unnecessary tasks. However, many tasks that could be viewed as illegitimate must still be performed; the results demonstrate that managers must be mindful of how such tasks are assigned and to whom, and should take steps to minimize and/or manage potential negative reactions to illegitimate tasks.
Originality/value
This study enriches the illegitimate tasks literature by examining its influence on the frontline hospitality employees’ in-role and extra-role performance and highlights a novel mediating mechanism linking illegitimate tasks and employee performance using conservation of resource theory. In addition, this reveals the novel moderating effect of work centrality.

Abstract
Purpose
Based on social exchange theory (SET) and conservation of resources (COR) theory, this study aims to examine the unique combined impact of procedural justice (PJ) and distributive justice (DJ) on proactive customer service performance (PCSP) and general self-efficacy (GSE) in the hospitality industry. It also estimates these variables’ joint effect on PCSP controlling GSE.
Design/methodology/approach
The study’s results were derived from a sample of 380 frontline supervisor–subordinate dyads, placed in 18 five-star hotels, through three-wave data collection. The hypotheses and construct validity were generated through structural equation modeling.
Findings
The combined impact of DJ and PJ on GSE and PCSP was significantly positive, and GSE mediated the relationships between DJ and PCSP as well as PJ and PCSP.
Practical implications
To improve service employees’ GSE and PCSP, hospitality management should guide and encourage managers to highlight and maintain organizational justice (OJ) in all their strategies and operations. DJ and PJ are advised to appreciate service employees’ GSE and extra-role behaviors (e.g. PCSP) through providing organizational resources.
Originality/value
This paper offers unique practical and theoretical contributions to the hospitality industry and associated literature by implementing SET and COR theory with OJ, GSE and PCSP constructs.
