Abstract

Purpose

Because of the rapid progress of global value chains (GVCs), it is worthwhile to study their impact on innovation. This study aims to explore the impact of GVC position of high-tech industries in the developing-country context of China on innovation performance; it also aims to explore the moderating effects of industrial agglomeration (specialization agglomeration and diversification agglomeration) on the relationship between GVC position and innovation performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The study is based on data gathered on Chinese high-tech industries in 30 provinces from the 2005–2015 period. The econometric analysis relies on merged data from the China Premium Database and the Trade in Value Added 2018 Database.

Findings

The regression results show that GVC position of China’s high-tech industries significantly affects their innovation performance, and both specialization agglomeration and diversification agglomeration significantly enhance the positive relationship between GVC position and innovation performance of China’s high-tech industries. After dividing the country into coastal and inland regions, new findings appear.

Originality/value

This study highlights the importance of GVC position and its effect on innovation performance of China’s high-tech industries. It contributes to the literature on the relationship between GVCs and innovation by elaborating on the moderating effects of industrial agglomeration on this relationship.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to present an adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller with nonlinear observer (AFSMCO) for the redundant robotic manipulator handling a varying payload to achieve a precise trajectory tracking in the task space. This approach could be applied to solve the problems caused by the dynamic effect of the varying payload to robotic system caused by model uncertainties.

Design/methodology/approach

First, a suitable observer using the recursive algorithm is presented for an accurate estimation of external disturbances caused by a variable payload. Second, the adaptive fuzzy logic is designed to approximate the parameters of the sliding mode controller combined with nonlinear observer (SMCO) to avoid chattering in real time. Moreover, Lyapunov theory is applied to guarantee the stability of the proposed closed-loop robotic system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control approach and theoretical discussion are proved by simulation results on a seven-link robot and demonstrated by a humanoid robot platform.

Findings

The varying payload leads to large variations in the dynamics of the manipulator and the tracking error. To achieve high-precision position tracking, nonlinear observer was introduced to feed into the sliding mode control (SMC) which had improved the ability to resist the external disturbance. In addition, the chattering caused by the SMC was eliminated by recursively approximating the switching gain with the usage of adaptive fuzzy logic. Therefore, a distributed control strategy solves the problems of an SMC implementation in improving its tracking performance and eliminating the chattering of the system control.

Originality/value

The AFSMCO is proposed for the first time and used to control the redundant robotic manipulator that handles the varying payload. The proposed control algorithm possesses better robustness and higher precision for the trajectory tracking than classical SMC.

Abstract

Purpose

The highly competitive atmosphere of the short video platforms has increased their similarity, while users possess remarkably diverse preferences, complicating the improvement of user stickiness. To address this issue, this research investigates the effects of different factors, including perceived usefulness, ease, enjoyment, interactivity, and social influence, on user stickiness.

Design/methodology/approach

To estimate these effects, it employs partial least square-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), technology acceptance model (TAM3) and theory of planned behavior (TPB) to analyze data collected from a questionnaire distributed among online users between July 20, 2023 and October 28, 2023.

Findings

The results indicate that all the studied factors have positive and significant effects on user stickiness. In addition, they confirmed the considerable effect of flow experience on the relationships between these factors and user stickiness, particularly in interactivity.

Originality/value

These findings show the short video platforms how to manage different factors effectively in stickiness to increase their uniqueness among competitors, attracting and keeping different users by covering their diverse preferences.

Abstract

Purpose

An accurate detection of overhead ground wire under open surroundings with varying illumination is the premise of reliable line grasping with the off-line arm when the inspection robot cross obstacle automatically. This paper aims to propose an improved approach which is called adaptive homomorphic filter and supervised learning (AHSL) for overhead ground wire detection.

Design/methodology/approach

First, to decrease the influence of the varying illumination caused by the open work environment of the inspection robot, the adaptive homomorphic filter is introduced to compensation the changing illumination. Second, to represent ground wire more effectively and to extract more powerful and discriminative information for building a binary classifier, the global and local features fusion method followed by supervised learning method support vector machine is proposed.

Findings

Experiment results on two self-built testing data sets A and B which contain relative older ground wires and relative newer ground wire and on the field ground wires show that the use of the adaptive homomorphic filter and global and local feature fusion method can improve the detection accuracy of the ground wire effectively. The result of the proposed method lays a solid foundation for inspection robot grasping the ground wire by visual servo.

Originality/value

This method AHSL has achieved 80.8 per cent detection accuracy on data set A which contains relative older ground wires and 85.3 per cent detection accuracy on data set B which contains relative newer ground wires, and the field experiment shows that the robot can detect the ground wire accurately. The performance achieved by proposed method is the state of the art under open environment with varying illumination.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this review paper is to outline the parachute materials and its behavior. To enhance parachute life, it is highly desirable to consider the commercial angle for any parachute manufacturing industry and its components under varying operational conditions. Hence, the knowledge of various textile materials and operational conditions which contributes the parachute strength and durability will be helpful for industries/researchers.

Design/methodology/approach

This section is not applicable for a review paper.

Findings

Parachute is a material used in numerous real-time applications such as man-drop, cargo delivery, aircraft recovery and aircraft decelerator which drastically reduces human efforts and time. However, each application requires a unique design and fabric selection to achieve the area of drag needed and the terminal velocity of the parachute material while in flight. For designing a man-drop parachute, the most critical parameters are weight and strength which must be considered during manufacturing. The army person uses the man-drop parachute, which must be as light as possible.

Originality/value

This paper is an original review work and will be helpful for parachute manufacturers/researchers to enhance the life of parachutes with improved functionality.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to present a coordinated control strategy for stable walking of biped robot with heterogeneous legs (BRHL), which consists of artificial leg (AL) and intelligent bionic leg (IBL).

Design/methodology/approach

The original concentrated control in common biped robot system is replaced by a master‐slave dual‐leg coordinated control. P‐type open/closed‐loop iterative learning control is used to realize the time‐varying gait tracking for IBL to AL.

Findings

The new control architecture can simplify gait planning scheme of BRHL system with complicated closed‐chain mechanism and mixed driving mode.

Research limitations/implications

Designing and constructing a suitable magneto‐rheological damper can greatly improve the control performance of IBL.

Practical implications

Master‐slave coordination strategy is suitable for BRHL stable walking control.

Originality/value

The concepts and methods of dual‐leg coordination have not been explicitly proposed in single biped robot control research before. Master‐slave coordinated control strategy is suitable for complicated BRHL.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to introduce new tools to develop a more precise and focused bibliometric analysis on the field of digitalization in healthcare management. Furthermore, this study aims to provide an overview of the existing resources in healthcare management and education and other developing interdisciplinary fields.

Design/methodology/approach

This work uses bibliometric analysis to conduct a comprehensive review to map the use of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology 2 (UTAUT2) research models in healthcare academic studies. Bibliometric studies are considered an important tool to evaluate research studies and to gain a comprehensive view of the state of the art.

Findings

Although UTAUT dates to 2003, our bibliometric analysis reveals that only since 2016 has the model, together with UTAUT2 (2012), had relevant application in the literature. Nonetheless, studies have shown that UTAUT and UTAUT2 are particularly suitable for understanding the reasons that underlie the adoption and non-adoption choices of eHealth services. Further, this study highlights the lack of a multidisciplinary approach in the implementation of eHealth services. Equally significant is the fact that many studies have focused on the acceptance and the adoption of eHealth services by end users, whereas very few have focused on the level of acceptance of healthcare professionals.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to conduct a bibliometric analysis of technology acceptance and adoption by using advanced tools that were conceived specifically for this purpose. In addition, the examination was not limited to a certain era and aimed to give a worldwide overview of eHealth service acceptance and adoption.
