Abstract

Purpose

The uncertainty of consumers' perceived value makes online education enterprises face great challenge in developing the pricing strategy. So the purpose of this paper is to research the pricing strategies of online education products by considering knowledge consumers' characteristics.

Design/methodology/approach

Considering consumer matching degree and price comparison, this study establishes the utility functions of consumers in normal sales period and discount selling period. On this basis, the research builds pricing models of the online education enterprise under the strategy of price undertaking and intertemporal pricing strategy. It further discusses the impact of consumer matching degree, consumer price sensitivity and different types of consumers on the product price and profit of online education enterprises, and reveals the optimal pricing strategy of the enterprise.

Findings

Consumer matching degree and price sensitivity coefficient have positive effects on product price and enterprise profit, but they have different effects on product demand; there are differences in the perceived value of the three types of consumers, and matching consumers are the optimal consumer group; the intertemporal pricing strategy is better than the strategy of price undertaking only when the price sensitivity coefficient is greater than a critical value.

Originality/value

This study enriches the literature on the pricing model of online education products and owns a practical significance to guide the online enterprise to make marketing strategies to increase profit.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to research the price strategies of online knowledge payment product by considering network externality in the C2C sharing economy.

Design/methodology/approach

Considering the characteristics of online knowledge goods and the social network externality of consumers, this study establishes a consumer utility function. On this basis, a multistage game pricing model of online knowledge products is established based on three kinds of network price strategies under a completely competitive market structure. It also analyzes the influence of consumer social network structure and consumer utility on online knowledge product pricing and producer profit, as well as the influence of consumer quantity and discount rate on pricing strategy.

Findings

The consumer social network and consumer utility affect the pricing of online knowledge product under different price strategies. In the growth period of the platform, adopting the price discrimination strategy, the profit of producers is significantly higher than that of other price strategies, and producers should choose effective price strategies for reasonable pricing in combination with their own sales objectives.

Originality/value

This study enriches the literature on the pricing model of online knowledge payment product and owns a practical significance to guide the knowledge producers’ marketing strategies to increase profit.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to first analyze the reasons of a brick-wooden building tilts in Yunnan province in China. Then, a jacking method which combines the stress release methods and the excavation of stress release trench were put forward.

Design/methodology/approach

This method uses the anchor static pile to guarantee the safety of the building in the process of rectifying.

Findings

The practice showed that the inclination rate of the building was stable in the process of jacking, which proved the efficiency of the proposed method.

Originality/value

It has a great value for similar rectification projects, and for the protection of cultural heritage and ancient buildings have a positive effect.

Abstract

Combining with an instance of rectification and reinforcement of a brick-concrete structure house in the Yunnan province, a comprehensive landing method was proposed. The building was reinforced, for the existing problems, on the basis of the analysis of the building tilt reasons. In order to ensure building safety in the process of rectifying inclination, the anchor static pile was used. The result showed that the inclination rate of the building returned to 3 % from 14.4 %, which proves the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to identify interdependent barriers to the search and selection of new technologies by design engineers at industry, organisation and individual levels. A “proof of concept” HyCon tool is presented to demonstrate the role of information technology design support tools in supporting designers to overcome these inhibitors, in this case for hybrid concrete, by providing immersive and interactive, information‐rich environments to explore design solutions.

Design/methodology/approach

The HyCon tool was developed through a prototyping methodology encompassing a testing, analysis, design and coding iterative cycle. This was supported by case studies and industry workshops.

Findings

The results of a collaborative research project are presented, which describes the HyCon design support tool to promote the understanding and use of hybrid concrete in structural frames. This tool is built around a knowledge creation, application, storage, and retrieval cycle to envision and support the use of this new technology.

Originality/value

This paper fulfils an identified need to integrate technology management and design process considerations within the context of an information technology design support tool, and offers a “proof of concept” HyCon tool to demonstrate key issues and potential utilities and applications.

Abstract

Purpose

Despite a number of studies that have demonstrated the potential of geographic information sharing and analysis in enabling the delivery of modernised e‐government services, there is a growing need for an evaluation of the use of geographic information systems (GIS) in local governments. The purpose of the paper is to explore the possibilities in this regard by establishing an evaluative framework based on e‐government development models. In addition, the paper will provide some preliminary findings of a case study from the northwest of England, where the framework was used.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper presents an evaluation framework which connects GIS use in local governments, with e‐government development models. Semi‐structured interviews were used in a case study of some local governments in the northwest of England. The findings are then compared and contrasted with findings from a critical literature review.

Findings

The framework is considered as useful in evaluating the development and use of GIS in local governments under the e‐government banner. The results illustrate a wider use of GIS in local governments in the northwest of England and its close connection with the e‐government strategy. The study also indicates many local governments are still facing social, technological and organisational challenges in different stages of the development of advanced GIS use.

Originality/value

The paper presents an evaluation framework designed for a new and specific perspective regarding the connection of e‐government and the use of GIS. Developing benchmarks with the framework should help politicians and other stakeholders to compare their initiatives with similar ones in other local governments. The paper would also help practitioners and decision makers to understand possible challenges in achieving such modernisation and the potential solutions at different stages development.

Abstract

Purpose

Additive manufacturing (AM), a method used in the nuclear, space and racing industries, allows the creation of customized titanium alloy scaffolds with highly defined external shape and internal structure using rapid prototyping as supporting external structures within which bone tissue can grow. AM allows porous tantalum parts with mechanical properties close to that of bone tissue to be obtained.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, porous tantalum structures with different scan distance were fabricated by AM using laser multi-layer micro-cladding.

Findings

Porous tantalum samples were tested for resistance to compressive force and used scanning electron microscope to reveal the morphology of before and after compressive tests. Their structure and mechanical properties of these porous Ta structures with porosity in the range of 35.48 to 50 per cent were investigated. The porous tantalum structures have comparable compressive strength 56 ∼ 480 MPa, and elastic modulus 2.8 ∼ 9.0GPa, which is very close to those of human spongy bone and compact bone.

Research limitations/implications

This paper does not demonstrate the implant results.

Practical implications

It can be used as implant material for the repair bone.

Social implications

It can be used for fabrication of other porous materials.

Originality/value

This paper system researched the scan distance on how to influence the mechanical properties of fabricated porous tantalum structures.

Abstract

Purpose

Structural design theory and method for the polyurea coating system have rarely been developed. The normally used experience-based design method may lead to unsafe, unreasonable and uneconomic results. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the deformation and failure behaviour of the polyurea coating so as to propose a rational design method.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, the fundamental theories concerning the nonlinear analysis of polyurea coating were discussed. Nonlinear Finite Element Method (FEM) models were built to investigate the mechanical behaviour, peeling behaviour and failure mode of the polyurea coating under various conditions, such as surface fracturing, surface hydraulic pressure and reverse hydraulic peeling.

Findings

The main conclusions are as follows. The peeled coating at the crack location exhibits a tensile-bending stress state. Coating material damage may occur at the stress concentration point. The maximum stress increases with the increase in the hydraulic pressure and cohesive strength. The peeling length of the coating decreases with the increase in cohesive strength and increases with the increase in fracture width. The reverse hydraulic pressure-induced blister edge stress concentration is the main trigger of the polyurea coating blistering damage. The blistering height decreases with increasing coating thickness and increases with increasing blistering radius and hydraulic load. The maximum stress increases with increasing blistering radius and hydraulic load. Finally, the frame of design and simple design programme were proposed.

Originality/value

Currently, a design method for polyurea anti-seepage coating can hardly be found. The reason is that the anti-seepage coating has only been recognized as a water-proofing layer, the mechanical behaviour of which has been ignored. This study focused on the mechanical behaviour of the anti-seepage coating and investigated the deformation and failure behaviour of the coating structure under various loading conditions through nonlinear FEM analysis. These research results offer a better understanding concerning the mechanical behaviour and design method of the polyurea anti-seepage coating.
