Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the mechanism of boundary-spanning search on firm’s innovation performance under environmental dynamics from the perspective of strategic knowledge integration.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey was conducted among Chinese firm managers and R&D personnel, resulting in the collection of 315 valid samples. Hierarchical regression analysis was mainly adopted to demonstrate the hypothesized relationships, while the Sobel test and bootstrap method were used to further validate the mediating effects.
Findings
The results demonstrate that boundary-spanning search in different dimensions is a critical factor in the improvement of firm innovation performance (FIP). Two types of strategic knowledge integration are the main factors causing FIP and mediate the influence of boundary-spanning search on FIP. Furthermore, environmental dynamics moderate the relationship among boundary-spanning search, strategic knowledge integration and FIP.
Practical implications
Managers need to strengthen the boundary-spanning search for market and technical knowledge, which will promote firm innovative performance. Managers also need to implement strategic knowledge integration, which specifically includes using planned strategic knowledge integration to compensate for knowledge deficiencies, thereby achieving predetermined objectives; and using emergent strategic knowledge integration to update their understanding of internal and external environments, and to reset strategic objectives. In dynamic environments, managers should emphasize strategic knowledge management activities more.
Originality/value
From a strategic management perspective, this study categorizes strategic knowledge integration into planned and emergent forms. By applying the logic of knowledge acquisition, integration and creation, it explores how boundary-spanning search affects FIP through strategic knowledge integration as the intermediary and the boundary conditions of environmental dynamics. This not only provides a deeper understanding of the nature and effects of boundary-spanning research but also enhances the theory of strategic knowledge management.

Abstract
Purpose
We aim to determine the subsidy mechanism that can help participants of green supply chain financing (GSCF) maximize their benefits. Then, the optimal subsidy mechanism is designed to promote the development of GSCF.
Design/methodology/approach
To better understand the impact of different government subsidy measures on the optimal strategy for GSCF, we treat the motivation of the participants in the supply chain as a cost–benefit decision-making process. Then, a Stackelberg game model is developed that accounts for consumers' green preferences and government subsidies. In addition, the factors influencing supply chain members' earnings are analyzed via computational experiments.
Findings
(1) When consumers 2019 green sensitivity reaches a certain threshold relative to that of core enterprises (CEs), the optimal order quantity of these enterprises is greater when the government subsidizes small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Conversely, the optimal order quantity is greater when CEs are subsidized. (2) When the government subsidizes CEs, financial institutions (FIs) and SMEs at the same time, these forms of subsidies have a cumulative effect on the supply chain, and the supply chain and all participants generate the highest earnings.
Originality/value
We analyze the benefits of each participant of GSCF under different government subsidies and then determine the optimal subsidy measures.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to focus on the risk decision making of entrepreneurial team, deconstruct the intermediate process mechanism of cognitive adaptability in promoting risk decision making and reveal the role of opportunity identification and entrepreneurial efficacy in the decision-making process, which clarifies how cognitive adaptability affects decision-making speed and effect.
Design/methodology/approach
This study establishes a relationship model among entrepreneurial team’s cognitive adaptability, opportunity identification, entrepreneurial efficacy and risk decision making, and selects 316 entrepreneurial teams to empirically study the relationship among core variables using Bootstrap analysis and Johnson–Neyman technology.
Findings
Cognitive adaptability though has no direct impact on risk decision-making speed, whereas it directly affects risk decision-making effect; opportunity identification has a full mediating effect between cognitive adaptability and decision-making speed, and a partial mediating effect between cognitive adaptability and decision-making effect; entrepreneurial efficacy plays a moderating role between opportunity identification and decision-making speed, and a same role between opportunity identification and decision-making effect.
Research limitations/implications
First, in setting the research model, the study does not take other moderators into consideration, which might be improved. Second, the study ignores the origin and formation of entrepreneurial team’s cognitive adaptability, the predisposing factors of which might be discussed in the future research.
Practical implications
The practical implication of this paper is to guide the entrepreneurial team to turn their focus on the impact of highly implicit cognitive adaptability on decision making, which might be divided into two aspects: the first is to enhance the cognitive adaptability of the entrepreneurial team, cultivate team members’ self-examination awareness and self-monitoring habits. The second is to strengthen team’s psychological capital and value the cultivation of entrepreneurial efficacy.
Originality/value
This paper breaks through the team process and structure perspectives, explores the driving mechanism of entrepreneurial team risk decision making from team cognition perspective, and deconstructs the logical framework of cognitive adaptability’s influence on risk decision making. This paper applies Johnson–Neyman technology to quantify the mediating effect entrepreneurial efficacy exerts on cognitive adaptability and decision-making speed, as well as on cognitive adaptability and decision-making effect.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of operating conditions including process coefficient, lubricant viscosity and cavitation pressure on the cavitation of spiral groove liquid-film seal (SG-LFS).
Design/methodology/approach
A mathematical model of SG-LFS is established based on the JFO boundary and a relative density is introduced. The universal governing equation after a coordinate transformation is discretized by the FVM method and solved by the Gauss-Seidel relaxation scheme.
Findings
The results indicate that the two-dimensional size of cavitation and cavitation degree are affected significantly by the process coefficient and lubricant viscosity but the effect of cavitation pressure can be ignored.
Originality/value
The effect mechanisms of operating conditions on the cavitation of SG-LFS are studied by the JFO boundary and cavitation degree characterized by a relative density. The results presented are helpful to perfect and deeply understand the cavitation mechanism of liquid-film seal.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to derive a new method for the hydrophilic finishing of wool fabric.
Design/methodology/approach
A new biological catalyst, microbial transglutaminase (mTGase), was used to catalyze the grafting of ε‐poly‐L‐lysine (ε‐PLL) onto the wool fabric.
Findings
The K/S value, SEM morphology and DSC analysis proved that the grafting reaction occurred. The hydrophilic properties of the ε‐PLL‐grafted wool fabrics were studied. The results showed that the grafted ε‐PLL could increase the hydrophilicity, which was demonstrated in terms of the obvious shortening in the wetting time and the process of water absorption and moisture absorption. The grafted wool also achieved better antistatic property.
Research limitations/implications
Future work could be focused on the application of this biological method on other protein fabric which was designed to change the performance.
Originality/value
The biological approach is safe, eco‐friendly and effective relative to the conventional methods.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to unravel the technological innovation pattern in China’s aerospace industry. The technological innovation pattern of China’s aerospace industry is identified and its theoretical foundation, structure, philosophy, formation and effects on the development of China’s aerospace industry are explored.
Design/methodology/approach
First, the theoretical foundation of synergy innovation of China’s aerospace industry is reviewed to further identify the technological innovation pattern. Second, Chinese ancient philosophy (dialectical thinking) is used to explain the structure and process of synergy innovation in China’s aerospace industry. Third, the formation process of synergy innovation is introduced, and, finally, the effects of synergy innovation are discussed.
Findings
The technological innovation pattern of China’s aerospace industry has undergone an evolutionary process. During this process, China’s aerospace firms have formed a unique technological innovation pattern, synergy innovation, under China’s special political and economic background. The synergy innovation has three characteristics, including original, integrated and application-based. The synergy innovation pattern application is one of the most important reasons behind the great achievements of China’s aerospace industry.
Originality/value
A unique technological innovation pattern, synergy innovation, is proposed for the first time. A new perspective for understanding innovation is provided by applying the Chinese dialectical thinking to decipher the philosophy of the technological innovation pattern. Based on this, this paper suggests that China’s aerospace industry should follow the situation and apply the synergy innovation pattern to achieve development and growth. This paper also illustrates a multi-method approach and emphasizes the different levels of organizing for innovation.

Purpose
This paper aims to explore the key elements and dynamic formation mechanisms involved in the company identity construction during multicompany identification.
Design/methodology/approach
This study adopted a longitudinal single case study method, selected a representative company as the study case and analyzed the interactive practice of identity construction between the company and its external stakeholders based on the theory of organizational identity and sensemaking.
Findings
This study finds that the process of company identity construction for external stakeholders involves six elements. Companies mainly use a highly controlled, equality and interaction model to develop identity for a single stakeholder. Company identity is based on the company’s core identity claims and is formed by gradually integrating and cooperating with the identity claims of different stakeholders. Meeting the self-defining needs of stakeholders is a key driving force behind the evolution of company identity.
Practical implications
This study offers practical implications for companies to pursue and construct multicompany identity. For different types of external stakeholders, companies can adopt different identity sensemaking models. To build a new company identity, a company needs to do more on the basis of identity insights to break cognitive constraints and build new identity claim. Companies need to integrate new identity claims with the original identity claims. If different identity claims conflict or are difficult to reconcile, it may damage their original identity claims and companies need to evaluate the trade-offs.
Originality/value
This study expands the concept of company identity construction from the individual perspective to organizational identity and contributes to research in relationship marketing. This study identifies the key elements of company identity construction with multistakeholder participation and contributes to theory building in company identity research. The results of this study reveal the company identity construction mechanism for different external stakeholders and the dynamic formation process of multicompany identity.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the engineering application of diamond like carbon (DLC) coatings on the surfaces of piston pins and bucket tappets for a 2.0 L supercharged gasoline engine. The friction loss and durability of DLC-coated components were investigated.
Design/methodology/approach
The tribological characteristics were examined under oil-lubricated conditions in a CETR UMT reciprocating tribometer. In a motored engine test rig, friction loss torque test was performed to estimate the improvement in fuel economy. Fired engine durability bench tests of typical duration of 450 h were completed to access the durability and wear resistance of DLC coating. Before and after durability tests, coated and uncoated components were measured on the sliding surface by a profilometer technique.
Findings
Friction and wear test results show that DLC coating has low friction coefficient and reduces the wear rates by almost ten times compared to those of uncoated surfaces. Friction loss measurements indicate that DLC-coated tappets can reduce valve train friction loss by 29 per cent, and DLC-coated piston pins can reduce piston group friction by 11 per cent. Based on fired engine durability bench tests, it is evidenced that none of the coated tappets and pins show any noticeable peeling or delamination. Wear profiles analysis results indicate that DLC-coated engine components give rise to a substantial reduction in wear.
Originality/value
DLC coating applied onto the working surface of piston pin and bucket tappet can effectively reduce the friction loss of gasoline engine. DLC coating exhibits sufficient durability and improves friction and wear performance.

A universal governing equation considering cavitation is established, and an equivalent relative density is defined to characterize the cavitation degree. The equation is discretized by the finite volume method and solved by the Gauss–Seidel relaxation scheme.
Findings
Results indicate that both radial length and a circumferential width of the cavitation zone and cavitation degree are affected significantly by the waviness amplitude and taper, but the effect of surface roughness is limited.
Originality/value
Effect mechanism of surface topography on the cavitation of LFL-MS is investigated and cavitation degree is reflected by an equivalent relative density. The results further help to comprehensively explore the cavitation mechanism.
