Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to automatically plan sequence for complex assembly products and improve assembly efficiency.
Design/methodology/approach
An assembly sequence planning system for workpieces (ASPW) based on deep reinforcement learning is proposed in this paper. However, there exist enormous challenges for using DRL to this problem due to the sparse reward and the lack of training environment. In this paper, a novel ASPW-DQN algorithm is proposed and a training platform is built to overcome these challenges.
Findings
The system can get a good decision-making result and a generalized model suitable for other assembly problems. The experiments conducted in Gazebo show good results and great potential of this approach.
Originality/value
The proposed ASPW-DQN unites the curriculum learning and parameter transfer, which can avoid the explosive growth of assembly relations and improve system efficiency. It is combined with realistic physics simulation engine Gazebo to provide required training environment. Additionally with the effect of deep neural networks, the result can be easily applied to other similar tasks.

Abstract
This is the third of a series of studies on Chinese brand naming using content analysis from a linguistic perspective. The first study generalized the principles guiding Chinese brands in terms of syllable pattern, tone pattern, compounding structure and semantic preference. The second looked at specific branding rules, focusing on two entirely different products: cosmetic products and bicycles. The present study, following the same linguistic framework of analysis, analyzes three groups of closely related products: spirits, beers, soft drinks, to see how these brands are creatively and distinctively constructed. Finds that the brand naming patterns of the three drinks are basically in agreement with the general Chinese branding principles, and the differences among them directly reflect the development, the consumer markets and characteristics of each product.

Purpose
This paper seeks to discuss the genealogical sources for Chinese immigrants as well as the settlement of Chinese in the USA and the historical evolution of Chinese names, their origins, arrangement and development. It aims to cover the origins of various classes of Chinese surnames, followed by the content description of a traditional genealogical book for jiapu.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper researches the various ways that a Chinese person can find out about their ancestry.
Findings
The paper reveals the roles of libraries, including serving the needs of patrons interested in genealogical research, preserving and interpreting information through oral and family history projects and collaborating with other libraries through interlibrary loan, document delivery, library consortia, collection management and international resource‐sharing.
Research limitations/implications
The study provides information on where and how to locate the genealogical resources for researching the genealogy of a Chinese family.
Originality/value
The paper analyzes the value of genealogical research as a documentary source for population history, life expectancy in a clan, marriages and family connections, as well as lineage organizations and inter‐lineage relations.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the relevant sayings and stories of the ancient Chinese sages in relation to the style of Chinese human resource management (HRM).
Design/methodology/approach
Related texts generated from the quotations and stories from four Chinese sages, Guanzi, Hanfeizi, Xunzi and Yanzi, were translated and analyzed and their thinking regarding ruling the state and managing the people was discussed in line with the thoughts from the mainstream and modern Western management gurus such as Warren Bennis, Peter Drucker, Mary Parker Follett, Douglas McGregor, Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Elton Mayo and Jeffrey Pfeffer.
Findings
It was found that there were striking similarities in thoughts and call for actions to address key issues in HRM by both old and contemporary, east and west thinkers across 2,500 years. The main concerns are to select the right leaders and managers and recruit the right people; create attractive organisational culture and environments that promote a participative management approach to encourage, empower and engage employees to achieve desirable outcomes; uphold the people‐centred management principles; and focus on designing reward schemes that emphasise service and contribution instead of position and profits.
Originality/value
There is much to be learned from the past to address the present people management issues among modern organisations both inside China and perhaps from other parts of the world. It was as difficult to take seriously the principles‐based ruling and management approaches in ancient times as it is today. However, if these principles had been put into practice, the world would have had fewer of the corporate corruption scandals and less of the mischievous behaviour in the state that are manifested in today's society, but more productive population, effective organisations, ethical governments and harmonious environment; hence less global human suffering.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to ensure the safe use of carbon fiber composite pressure vessels in the nuclear industry environment.
Design/methodology/approach
This study investigated the degradation behaviors of carbon fiber reinforced composite (CFRP) using the specific corrosive media HF solution, with a focus on the damage to the surface epoxy layer. The degradation behaviors of CFRP in HF solution were examined by electrochemical methods and surface characterization, using HCl, NaCl and NaF solution for comparison.
Findings
The results showed that the specimen in HF solution will have a value of |Z|0.01 Hz one order of magnitude lower, a substantially lower contact angle, more breakage of the surface epoxy and the stronger O─H peak and weaker C─O─C peak in the Fourier transform infrared spectrum, indicating severe hydrolytic damage to the surface epoxy.
Originality/value
The work focuses on the degradation damage to CFRP surface epoxy by specific corrosive media HF.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to investigate how book group recommendations can be used as a meaningful way to suggest suitable books to users, given the increasing number of individuals engaging in sharing and discussing books on the web.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors propose reviews fine-grained classification (CFGC) and its related models such as CFGC1 for book group recommendation. These models can categorize reviews successively by function and role. Constructing the BERT-BiLSTM model to classify the reviews by function. The frequency characteristics of the reviews are mined by word frequency analysis, and the relationship between reviews and total book score is mined by correlation analysis. Then, the reviews are classified into three roles: celebrity, general and passerby. Finally, the authors can form user groups, mine group features and combine group features with book fine-grained ratings to make book group recommendations.
Findings
Overall, the best recommendations are made by Synopsis comments, with the accuracy, recall, F-value and Hellinger distance of 52.9%, 60.0%, 56.3% and 0.163, respectively. The F1 index of the recommendations based on the author and the writing comments is improved by 2.5% and 0.4%, respectively, compared to the Synopsis comments.
Originality/value
Previous studies on book recommendation often recommend relevant books for users by mining the similarity between books, so the set of book recommendations recommended to users, especially to groups, always focuses on the few types. The proposed method can effectively ensure the diversity of recommendations by mining users’ tendency to different review attributes of books and recommending books for the groups. In addition, this study also investigates which types of reviews should be used to make book recommendations when targeting groups with specific tendencies.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide the historical background of genealogical records and analyze the value of Chinese genealogical research through the study of names and genealogical resources.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper examines the historical evolution and value of Chinese genealogical records, with the focus on researching the Islamic Chinese names used by the people living in Guilin. The highlight of this paper includes the analysis and evolution of the Islamic Chinese names commonly adopted by the local people in Guilin. It concludes with the recommendations on emphasizing and making the best use of genealogical records to enhance the research value of Chinese overseas studies.
Findings
The paper covers the history of Islam and describes how the religion was introduced into China, as well as Muslims' ethnicity and identity. It also places focus on the importance of building a research collection in Asian history and Chinese genealogy.
Research limitations/implications
This research study has a strong subject focus on Chinese genealogy, Asian history, and Islamic Chinese surnames. It is a narrow field that few researchers have delved into.
Practical implications
The results of this study will assist students, researchers, and the general public in tracing the origin of their surnames and developing their interest in the social and historical value of Chinese local history and genealogies.
Social implications
The study of Chinese surnames is, by itself, a particular field for researching the social and political implications of contemporary Chinese society during the time the family members lived.
Originality/value
Very little research has been done in the area of Chinese local history and genealogy. The paper would be of value to researchers such as historians, sociologists, ethnologists and archaeologists, as well as students and anyone interested in researching a surname origin, its history and evolution.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effect of nitrogen and air atmospheres on the solderability testing of plasma‐treated hot air solder level (HASL) finish printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, the soldering performance of plasma‐treated HASL finish PCBs in nitrogen and air atmospheres have been evaluated using the wetting balance technique. The results were compared with the performance of conventionally flux‐treated samples soldered in air and nitrogen atmospheres and non‐flux treated samples soldered in air. Auger chemical analysis results were also compared with the solderability test results in order to obtain a complete profile of the plasma‐treated and non‐treated surfaces.
Findings
The results of the auger chemical analysis show high organic (carbon) levels in the control samples and a significant drop in organic levels in the plasma‐treated samples. The significant drop in the level of carbon leads to a decrease in contact angle and an increase in both surface energy and solder wettability. The results indicate that plasma cleaning of PCBs prior to soldering is a viable alternative to the conventional use of flux.
Originality/value
The paper indicates that the soldering performance of plasma‐treated PCBs in air and nitrogen atmosphere are comparable. The findings give the motivation for the use of plasma‐assisted dry cleaning for fluxless soldering.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to address the problem of the divergence of traditional inertial navigation system (INS)/celestial navigation system (CNS)-integrated navigation for ballistic missiles. The authors introduce Doppler navigation system (DNS) and X-ray pulsar navigation (XNAV) to the traditional INS/CNS-integrated navigation system and then propose an INS/CNS/DNS/XNAV deep integrated navigation system.
Design/methodology/approach
DNS and XNAV can provide velocity and position information, respectively. In addition to providing velocity information directly, DNS suppresses the impact of the Doppler effect on pulsar time of arrival (TOA). A pulsar TOA with drift bias is observed during the short navigation process. To solve this problem, the pulsar TOA drift bias model is established. And the parameters of the navigation filter are optimised based on this model.
Findings
The experimental results show that the INS/CNS/DNS/XNAV deep integrated navigation can suppress the drift of the accelerometer to a certain extent to improve the precision of position and velocity determination. In addition, this integrated navigation method can reduce the required accuracy of inertial navigation, thereby reducing the cost of missile manufacturing and realising low-cost and high-precision navigation.
Originality/value
The velocity information provided by the DNS can suppress the pulsar TOA drift, thereby improving the positioning accuracy of the XNAV. This reflects the “deep” integration of these two navigation methods.
