Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to evaluate diethylenetriamine (DETA) as an inhibitor on Q235 (Gr. D) steel in ammonia flue gas desulfurization (AFGD) system.

Design/methodology/approach

This research was carried out by weight loss, electrochemical measurements, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry. The effects of DETA on crystallization of ammonium sulfate and its co-crystallization were also investigated by X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy.

Findings

The inhibition efficiency of DETA reached a maximum value of 98.96 per cent. DETA is postulated to adsorb on Q235 steel surface, resulting in the formation of a protective film by the accumulation of many flat particles, and the thickness of protective film is 8 μm. DETA had no effect on the crystallization of ammonium sulfate product.

Originality/value

DETA can be used in AFGD system as an inhibitor to protect the equipment well.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to study the controlled release and synergistic effect of water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) on phosphate corrosion inhibitor at the interface of thermal insulation cotton/carbon steel.

Design/methodology/approach

This study was carried out using a coating method, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and AC impedance.

Findings

The single-phase phosphate particles were coated/adsorbed on the PVA film, which was formed on the fiber surface of corrosion inhibitor/PVA-impregnated rock wool sample. On the surface of Q235 steel, an effective protective film was formed by the corrosion inhibitor with partially dissolved PVA that can significantly increase the polarization resistance of corrosion reaction, and reduce the capacitive reactance of electric double layer. The rock wool impregnated with the phosphate corrosion inhibitor and 1.5 per cent PVA showed obvious controlled release and inhibition synergism.

Originality/value

The rock wool impregnated with the phosphate corrosion inhibitor and 1.5 per cent PVA showed the following advantages: the adsorption and release quantities of the corrosion inhibitor increased by 3.3 and 2.9 times, respectively; the release-adsorption equilibrium time increased from 2 to 6 h; and the corrosion inhibition efficiency increased from 61.55 per cent to 94.6 per cent.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to investigate the reason of G105 coated drill-pipes suffering from washout after drilling for 70000–80000 m.

Design/methodology/approach

The microstructure, micromorphology and corrosion products near the washout were analyzed by metallurgical microscopy, SEM and EDS.

Findings

Results showed the metallographic microstructure of the material was typical tempered sorbite. No fatigue crack was observed. Drill-pipe washout was caused mainly by the inclusion of MnS in steel because of the excess S and by damaged coating, both of which induced pit nucleation and promoted the pitting corrosion process. The corrosion hole extended from the interior to the exterior, which resulted in the fracturing of the external drill-pipe surface under pressure.

Originality/value

This paper can give practical help to the selection of drill pipe materials in the future.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to show how Tai Chi (or T’ai Chi ch’uan) philosophy might be used in global project development. Collected case studies support a Tai Chi-based framework for global project teams to reduce stress and improve decision making through exercises, storytelling, and martial arts practices. The authors first proposed a model or procedural framework based on experiential knowledge from practicing Tai Chi while managing projects.

Design/methodology/approach

Analyzing case studies from knowledge managers, project managers, and executive leaders, the researchers collected data on applying the framework from a retrospective case study and from two observational case studies during project development. Tai Chi-based communications and exercises were shown to support critical thinking, knowledge sharing, and problem solving. The proposed framework and four-step procedure build on a global perspective to cultural awareness, creativity, and motivation as well as specific Tai Chi-based tactics, techniques, and operations for knowledge management. This preliminary study looks at improving collaboration in a competitive environment while supporting health, wellness, and work-life enjoyment.

Findings

Early research results suggest that teams and individuals working on projects and practicing Tai Chi might develop more cohesive strategies and improve soft skills during their integration of Eastern and Western philosophies.

Research limitations/implications

Used case studies methodology, which provided examples of using Tai Chi during projects. Qualitative data used to develop the proposed framework. Also, interviews and discussion reviews conducted for additional validation collected on framework.

Practical implications

It is a pioneering, preliminary study. Future research with outcomes-based data from project managers using Tai Chi recommended.

Originality/value

The integration of Eastern and Western philosophies into a framework for team project and knowledge management was shown to support cohesive strategies, improve soft skills, and strengthen decision making.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of trust on user adoption of artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) based on the stimulus–organism–response.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of trust on user adoption of artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) based on the stimulus–organism–response.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors conducted an online survey in China, which is a highly competitive AI market, and obtained 504 valid responses. Both structural equation modelling and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) were used to conduct data analysis.

Findings

The results indicated that perceived intelligence, perceived transparency and knowledge hallucination influence cognitive trust in platform, whereas perceived empathy influences affective trust in platform. Both cognitive trust and affective trust in platform lead to trust in AIGC. Algorithm bias negatively moderates the effect of cognitive trust in platform on trust in AIGC. The fsQCA identified three configurations leading to adoption intention.

Research limitations/implications

The main limitation is that more factors such as culture need to be included to examine their possible effects on trust. The implication is that generative AI platforms need to improve the intelligence, transparency and empathy, and mitigate knowledge hallucination to engender users’ trust in AIGC and facilitate their adoption.

Originality/value

Existing research has mainly used technology adoption theories such as unified theory of acceptance and use of technology to examine AIGC user behaviour and has seldom examined user trust development in the AIGC context. This research tries to fill the gap by disclosing the mechanism underlying AIGC user trust formation.
