Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to discuss the formation mechanism of members’ emotional attachment to virtual travel communities from an online–offline perspective, focusing on the role of offline tourism experiences.

Design/methodology/approach

A questionnaire was designed to survey active travel enthusiast clubs that hold frequent offline tourism activities. A structural equation modeling method was used to estimate the model and test the research hypotheses.

Findings

Results demonstrated that offline travel experiences positively influenced online community attachment (i.e., community dependence and identity), and this effect was more pronounced than that of one’s sense of community (i.e., belonging, trust and immersion) on community attachment. Therefore, compared with online interaction, offline travel experiences played a greater part in strengthening virtual community attachment.

Originality/value

The study presents a pioneering effort on understanding how offline activities help shape the community attachment to virtual communities.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to compare the forecasting performance of different models with and without big data predictors from search engines and social media.

Design/methodology/approach

Using daily tourist arrival data to Mount Longhu, China in 2018 and 2019, the authors estimated ARMA, ARMAX, Markov-switching auto-regression (MSAR), lasso model, elastic net model and post-lasso and post-elastic net models to conduct one- to seven-days-ahead forecasting. Search engine data and social media data from WeChat, Douyin and Weibo were incorporated to improve forecasting accuracy.

Findings

Results show that search engine data can substantially reduce forecasting error, whereas social media data has very limited value. Compared to the ARMAX/MSAR model without big data predictors, the corresponding post-lasso model reduced forecasting error by 39.29% based on mean square percentage error, 33.95% based on root mean square percentage error, 46.96% based on root mean squared error and 45.67% based on mean absolute scaled error.

Practical implications

Results highlight the importance of incorporating big data predictors into daily demand forecasting for tourism attractions.

Originality/value

This study represents a pioneering attempt to apply the regularized regression (e.g. lasso model and elastic net) in tourism forecasting and to explore various daily big data indicators across platforms as predictors.

Abstract

Purpose

Innovation convergence is critical to national or regional economic growth patterns. This article provides a systematic review of innovation convergence research through qualitative discussions combined with bibliometric methods. Through this article, researchers interested in the field of innovation convergence can quickly understand the development of the field, quickly identify authors and publications with significant impact, and collaborative networks in the field.

Design/methodology/approach

This article is based on the relevant literature included in the WOS database from 1990 to 2021, using Citespace, Gephi and other software to conduct a systematic bibliometric analysis of the research in the new convergence field.

Findings

This research shows that the second half of the twentieth century was a boom period for research on economic convergence. 2. The subject foundation of innovation convergence research mainly includes mathematics, economics, political science and computational science. 3. The journals that publish research in this field are widely distributed, including the fields of economics, natural sciences and complex sciences. 4. The research in the field of innovation convergence is inseparable from the research in the field of economic growth.

Originality/value

This study may help others to understand the development history and research trends of the innovation convergence field, as well as the literature and cooperative scientific research institutions that have an important influence.

Abstract

Purpose

The purposes of this paper are to analyze whether digital finance can contribute to enterprises' innovation performance and to determine the mediating effect of government subsidies.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper empirically examines the impacts of digital finance on enterprises' innovation performance by looking at Chinese companies listed on the SME and GEM boards from 2011 to 2018 to build an econometric model to test our hypotheses. The mediating effect of government subsidies, the moderating effect of financial constraints are examined, as well as shareholding of the largest shareholders in each selected company and the asset-liability ratio.

Findings

The results show that digital finance has a significant promotional effect on firms' innovation performance and that government subsidies play a partial mediating role in digital finance's contribution to firms' innovation performance. In addition, financial constraints and the shareholding of the largest shareholders in each selected company have a negative moderating effect on the relationship between government subsidies and firms' innovation performance. On the contrary, the asset-liability ratio is found to positively affect the relationship.

Originality/value

There has been limited research to date on the relationship between digital finance and firms' innovation performance, particularly with regard to the extent to which digital finance can influence innovation performance and the mechanisms for doing so. Therefore, it is of great significance to examine the relationship between digital finance and enterprises' innovation performance, which can also provide guidance for both the Chinese government and enterprises.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to present a method for the conceptual design and simulation of an aircraft flight control system.

Design/methodology/approach

The design methodology is based on particle swarm optimization (PSO). PSO can be used to improve the performance of conventional controllers. The aim of the present study is threefold. First, it attempts to detect and isolate faults in an aircraft model. Second, it is to design a proportional (P) controller, a proportional derivative (PD) controller, a proportional-integral (PI) controller and a fuzzy controller for an aircraft model. Third, it is to design a PD controller for an aircraft using a PSO algorithm.

Findings

Conventional controllers, an intelligent controller and a PD controller-based PSO were investigated for flight control. It was seen that the P controller, the PI controller and the PD controller-based PSO caused overshoot. These overshoots were 18.5, 87.7 and 2.6 per cent, respectively. Overshoot was not seen using the PD controller or fuzzy controller. Steady state errors were almost zero for all controllers. The PD controller had the best settling time. The fuzzy controller was second best. The PD controller-based PSO was the third best, but the result was close to the others.

Originality/value

This study shows the implementation of the present algorithm for a specified space mission and also for study regarding variation of performance parameters. This study shows fault detection and isolation procedures and also controller gain choice for a flight control system. A comparison between conventional controllers and PD-based PSO controllers is presented. In this study, sensor fault detection and isolation are carried out, and, also, root locus, time domain analysis and Routh–Hurwitz methods are used to find the conventional controller gains which differ from other studies. A fuzzy controller is created by the trial and error method. Integral of squared time multiplied by squared error is used as a performance function type in PSO.
