Abstract
Transformational leadership theory is a relatively recent entrant into the realm of management thought. In fact, the majority of this literature has been published in the past 15 years. That being said, the ideas that are central to transformational leadership are not necessarily new. Many of these constructs can be found in the writings of earlier management theorists. The literature indicates that transformational leadership can positively impact on organizational outcomes and employee satisfaction. Without an understanding of its historical roots, however, transformational leadership risks becoming nothing more than the latest “buzzword” for enhancing organizational performance. To fully understand and appreciate the paradigm, one must trace the development of the transformational factors from a historical perspective.

The purpose of this paper is to show how the Balanced Scorecard approach, a performance management system, could be implemented at a college of business.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors' own college of business is used as an example, to present how a successful Balanced Scorecard would look.
Practical implications
A comprehensive guide for implementation of the Balanced Scorecard approach is presented, including presentation of specific objectives and measures appropriate for a college of business.
Originality/value
The paper points out that the Balanced Scorecard approach is well suited to a higher education situation and allows the alignment of a wide variety of measures with the unique mission and strategy of a college of business.

With increasing acceptance of followership as a counterpart of leadership, the study of followership within graduate-level leadership and business curricula should be equally considered. Further, an understanding of andragogy, or adult education theory, is of benefit with the inclusion of creativity within a followership curriculum. By developing creative capacity within followership education, graduate students are better equipped to influence the business world with innovative thinking skills that enhance problem solving in an increasingly competitive work environment.

Abstract
This research examined the relationship between the behaviors associated with transformational, transactional, and laissez‐faire leadership and followers’ success in marketing financial services in a proximal sales unit environment. Although transformational leadership has received significant support in non‐sales settings, empirical research investigating the transformational sales manager/sales follower dyad is limited. Recent research has suggested that a transactional style of sales management may be preferable when attempting to influence follower work outcomes. This examination reports results that support the notion that transformational sales leadership may be advantageous to services sales organizations in settings where sales managers and their followers are in close proximity.

Abstract
Numerous past articles, many of which consist of idealised prescriptions for success or the occasional case study or practitioner's contribution, have commented on the role of hospital clinician‐managers. Prior work is circumscribed, however, in that it tends to be normative and a priori (how clinician‐managers in principle should manage) rather than descriptive and a posteriori (how clinician‐managers in situ do manage). In addition, it is apparent that an empirically‐grounded, testable model is lacking for the way clinician‐managers work. This paper sets out to balance past normative‐prescriptive accounts with a descriptive‐analytic one, and presents an empirically‐based conceptual model of the behavioural routines of hospital clinician‐managers. The model, based on multiple studies of clinician‐managers' activities, conjectures five major modes of operating and four primary and five secondary pursuits. The paper advances accounts of how clinician‐management work is conducted and the time frames for it, and hypothesises about clinician‐managers' relationships, and how power and control is experienced and exercised. It also briefly discusses some of the implications of both the research program and the findings. However, following Popper, researchers ought to invite attempts to improve rigor through a systematic critique of their findings. Critical analysis of this work under falsification processes is consequently welcomed.

Abstract
Presents the scientific methodology from the enlarged cybernetical perspective that recognizes the anisotropy of time, the probabilistic character of natural laws, and the entry that the incomplete determinism in Nature opens to the occurrence of innovation, growth, organization, teleology communication, control, contest and freedom. The new tier to the methodological edifice that cybernetics provides stands on the earlier tiers, which go back to the Ionians (c. 500 BC). However, the new insights reveal flaws in the earlier tiers, and their removal strengthens the entire edifice. The new concepts of teleological activity and contest allow the clear demarcation of the military sciences as those whose subject matter is teleological activity involving contest. The paramount question “what ought to be done”, outside the empirical realm, is embraced by the scientific methodology. It also embraces the cognitive sciences that ask how the human mind is able to discover, and how the sequence of discoveries might converge to a true description of reality.

The economic science is again in a crisis and a new solution prolegomena to any future study in economics, finance and other social sciences has just been published by the International Institute of Social Economics in care of the MCB University Press in England. The roots of the major financial and economic problems of our time lie in an open conflict between theory and practice. In the 1930s and before the conflict was between classical theory and given realities. In the 1990s the conflict appears between the now prevailing modern, Keynesian theory and the actual realities. In addition during the twentieth century a great argument developed between the two schools of thought, argument which is not yet settled. In one sentence, the prolegomena tried and was successful to solve the conflict between theory and practice and the big doctrinal dispute of the twentieth century. It was a struggle of research and observation over half a century between 1947 and 1997.
