Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between innovative work behavior and job performance among physicians in Iraq’s public hospitals. It also quantifies the impact of employees’ dynamic capabilities on innovative work behavior. It further examines the mediating role of innovative work behavior in the relationship between dynamic capabilities and of employees’ job performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The survey had a total of 332 respondents, but only 173 responses were used after data screening. To determine the relationship between the variables, the study uses structural equation modeling via partial least squares (PLS-SEM).

Findings

This study indicates that innovative work behavior has a positive relationship with job performance among physicians in Iraq’s public hospitals. It also reveals that employees’ dynamic capabilities are important determinants of innovative work behavior. This research further shows that innovative work behavior has a positive mediating role in the relationship between dynamic capabilities and job performance among physicians in Iraq’s public hospitals.

Originality/value

This study implies that innovative work behavior can improve physicians’ job performance while the employees’ dynamic capabilities can improve innovative work behavior. Besides, innovative work behavior can amplify the impact of employees’ dynamic capabilities on job performance. Thus, Iraq’s public hospitals should make a concerted effort to promote innovative work behavior to improve physicians’ job performance.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper examines the effect of job satisfaction on job performance among physicians in Iraq's public hospitals. It also determines the mediating role of job satisfaction on the relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance. It further unveils the mediating role of job satisfaction on the nexus between transformational leadership and job performance. As physicians form the bulk of health-care professionals, their performance at work is crucial in determining patient satisfaction regarding care quality.

Design/methodology/approach

A quantitative approach with structural equation modelling via partial least squares (PLS-SEM) and bootstrapping estimation was used to test the hypotheses developed. A total of 157 responses were utilized in the data analysis.

Findings

Evidence from the study indicates that job satisfaction has a positive relationship with job performance. The study also provides evidence that job satisfaction plays a positive mediating role in the relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance. Similarly, job satisfaction has a positive mediating effect on the nexus between transformational leadership and job performance among physicians in Iraq's public hospitals.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to investigate the relationship between physician job satisfaction and job performance in Iraqi public hospitals. Studies using Eastern samples are scarce, so the findings of this study will add to the body of knowledge from a cross-cultural standpoint.

Abstract

Purpose

This study introduces a theoretical model that integrates the conservation of resources (COR) and ability-motivation-opportunity (AMO) theories. This model is used to examine the relationship between green transformational leadership and green human resources management. Additionally, the study explores the influence of this relationship on employee green behaviour and the development of personal moral norms.

Design/methodology/approach

The hypotheses developed in this study were tested through a quantitative approach, employing structural equation modelling via partial least squares (PLS-SEM) along with bootstrapping estimation techniques. For data analysis, the study utilized responses from a total of 475 participants.

Findings

The findings of this study indicate that the implementation of green transformational leadership has a positive impact on green human resources management. In turn, enhanced green human resources management positively influences employee green behaviour. The research further reveals that employee green behaviour not only contributes positively to the development of personal moral norms but also plays a crucial mediating role in the relationship between green human resources management and personal moral norms. Additionally, evidence supports the significant mediating effect of green human resources management in the relationship between green transformational leadership and employee green behaviour.

Originality/value

This study highlights the pivotal role of employee green behaviour as a foundational element in developing personal moral norms, marking a departure from prior research in the green transformational leadership field, which has predominantly focused on green human resources management. By implementing green transformational leadership strategies, organisations can not only enhance their competitive edge but also effectively attract highly skilled and qualified candidates, thereby making a significant contribution to the field.

Abstract

Purpose

From scholars' view, there are various research approaches to investigate the city and its spaces. However, there is a need to examine the city and its spaces from the residents' perspective. Hermeneutic phenomenology might be applicable and valuable. Also, communication is a requirement for successful participatory planning and spatial analysis. Architects, urban designers and landscape architects must possess intersubjective competencies to communicate and engage with the public. Hermeneutic knowledge is the source for developing these intersubjective capabilities essential for communication. All design preparation and execution steps require distorted-free communication, starting with defining a problem and ending with implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper aims to test the applicability of hermeneutic phenomenology in urban studies. The author examines the right to the city and producing space in Cairo, Egypt. Besides web pages, documents and social networks, data sources vary, including proverbs and poems. Semiotics is the qualitative research technique used to interrogate the collected material using qualitative data analysis software.

Findings

Cairo's growth is the outcome of the division of labor, administration and power dynamics. Egyptians' right to take part in Cairo's planning and management is the issue. Hermeneutic phenomenology is an approach to perform spatial environmental investigations. It could inform decision-making, ensure the planning process's validity and guarantee people's ownership of planned projects.

Originality/value

Phenomenology allows for inside and outside the understanding of a spatial phenomenon. The current focus of architectural and planning schools' curricula is on technical actions. These schools consider increasing the dose of social sciences in their curricula. Educators could teach students how to use hermeneutic phenomenological research methodologies. Using hermeneutic knowledge in communication encourages public engagement in formulating and implementing projects, thus ensuring their long-term viability.
