Abstract

There are probably very few college management teachers, industry trainers, or organisation development specialists that have heard of Hamburger University. Believe it or not, Hamburger University really does exist in Elk Grove Village, Illinois and it is a very large operation. You guessed it — Hamburger University is the international training centre for McDonald's Corporation and since its establishment in the basement of a Chicago restaurant in 1961, it has graduated almost 20,000 McDonald's managers and franchisees.

Abstract

Despite its past economic success Brazil faces a serious shortage of experienced managers to plan, organise and direct its course into the future. Previously it has relied on other countries to develop its managers. The formation of the Instituto de Administracao e Gerenica (Institute for Administration and Management (IAG)) in the early 1970s is described, which now offers courses in executive development and management behaviour. Its approach is particularly effective in developing balanced executives and providing the more experienced manager with a broader education.

Abstract

Since the first Volume of this Bibliography there has been an explosion of literature in all the main areas of business. The researcher and librarian have to be able to uncover specific articles devoted to certain topics. This Bibliography is designed to help. Volume III, in addition to the annotated list of articles as the two previous volumes, contains further features to help the reader. Each entry within has been indexed according to the Fifth Edition of the SCIMP/SCAMP Thesaurus and thus provides a full subject index to facilitate rapid information retrieval. Each article has its own unique number and this is used in both the subject and author index. The first Volume of the Bibliography covered seven journals published by MCB University Press. This Volume now indexes 25 journals, indicating the greater depth, coverage and expansion of the subject areas concerned.

Abstract

Highlights the importance of ensuring the highest possible return rates when using mail surveys. Describes a study investigating the difference in return rates between a parent company and a fictitious consulting firm. Reports that there was no difference between response rates for two different return addresses, and that response bias was not a problem. Concludes therefore that great cost savings can be made as a result of developing and mailing the materials in‐house. Summarizes research literature on response rate surveys.
