Abstract
Purpose
Managerial roles require knowledge, skills and abilities that are difficult to assess during the hiring process. Consequently, hiring an unqualified candidate for a managerial position can result in a disastrous outcome for the organization. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to propose a hiring technique that allows a more accurate assessment of a managerial candidate’s overall skills to aid better hiring decisions.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed technique, video-based structured interviews, shows the interviewee a video clip of a work-related scenario and follow-up with standardized questions to assess their ability to both understand the situation and make good decisions.
Findings
Compared with verbal situational questions, using video-based scenarios is a more robust and realistic technique as it requires the interviewee to use multiple senses (seeing and hearing) to observe and then respond to a given situation in a way that is closer to how they would encounter it at work.
Practical implications
The video-based scenarios can be used as a hybrid technique blending elements of both patterned-behavior-description and situational interview. In addition, this technique can be used to measure a potential manager’s compatibility related to key organizational values such as safety first or quality first.
Originality/value
The proposed video-based structured interview technique enhances the preemployment assessment process to identify and select managerial employees that has the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful in their roles. This interview technique, combined with other relevant assessment tools, provides a clearer picture of the candidate’s capabilities.

This paper aims to introduce the concept of 360° recruitment, which is a systematic, practical and holistic recruitment process that provides a reliable employee-selection structure for an organization of any size.
Design/methodology/approach
The recruitment process, which begins with establishing the correct selection criteria, provides a 360° view of a candidate by combining assessments, job interviews, reference checks and job previews.
Findings
Hiring the right employees is critical for the growth and success of an organization. However, many companies do not have an effective and reliable recruitment process that enables them to hire top-notch talent who are highly compatible with the firm. The 360° recruiting process is a practical technique that enables organizations to evaluate job applicants from multiple angles while reducing the uncertainty and the biases that are inherent in a typical recruiting process.
Originality/value
The 360° recruitment process is comprehensive yet practical and can be used by an organization of any size. The technique, if properly administered, will optimize recruiting and ensure that qualified and compatible employees are hired into the organization.

Purpose
Given the prevalence of obesity in society at large and ensuing weight discrimination in the workplace, the purpose of this paper is to bring to light the social stigma attached to obesity, stimulate the discussion around enacting better legislation to alleviate weight-based discrimination in the workplace and highlight the role of human resource (HR) departments in preventing such discriminatory actions.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper reviews current perceptions, trends, laws and consequences related to obesity and weight discrimination and discusses the implications for organizations and HR professionals.
Findings
Weight discrimination is a real problem in society as a whole and workplaces in particular. HR professionals have a key role to play in removing weight discrimination and creating a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
Originality/value
Although weight discrimination has significant professional and personal consequences, there is a lack of explicit laws and policies that provide strong protection to impacted individuals. This paper brings the issue to light and discusses the role of HR in eliminating such bias and discriminatory practices in the workplace.

Abstract
Purpose
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruptions to global supply chains (SCs), affecting the production, distribution, and transportation of goods and services. To mitigate these disruptions, it is essential to identify the barriers that have impeded the seamless operation of SCs. This study identifies these barriers and assesses their impact on supply chain network (SCN).
Design/methodology/approach
To determine the relative importance of different barriers and rank the affected industries, a hybrid approach was employed, combining the best-worst method (BWM) and the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS). To accommodate the inherent uncertainties associated with the pandemic, a triangular fuzzy TOPSIS was used to represent the linguistic variable ratings provided by decision-makers.
Findings
The study found that the airlines and hospitality industry was the most affected by the barriers, accounting for 46% of the total, followed by the healthcare industry (23%), the manufacturing industry (19%), and finally the consumer and retail industry (17%).
Research limitations/implications
This study is limited to the four critical industries and nine identified barriers. Other industries and barriers may have different weights and rankings. Nevertheless, the findings offer valuable insights for decision-makers in SC management, aiding them in mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on their operations and enhancing their resilience against future disruptions.
Originality/value
This study enhances understanding of COVID-19’s impact on SCN and provides a framework for assessing disruptions using multi-criteria decision-making processes. The hybrid approach of BWM and TOPSIS in a fuzzy environment is unique and offers potential applicability in various evaluation contexts.

Abstract
The aim of the present study is to perform bibliometric analysis on available literature on the subject of cultural diversity in the tourism sector. The Scopus database is used to retrieve the research article data and 133 articles were fetched over a period of 33 years (1988–2021). The further analysis is performed using and Biblioshiny tool package of R programming language and VOSviewer. The findings for study not only reveal the trends of publications but also produced the information on most influential authors, journals, and universities which are actively contributing to the subject of cultural diversity in tourism. Various network graphs are also generated using software to draw meaningful conclusions. The present study will not only aid future investigators in understanding the past developments on the subject of cultural diversity in tourism but also help industry professionals in formulating better strategies and tactics keeping in mind the cultural dimension of tourism. The present study is a maiden attempt to perform the bibliometric analysis on the subject of cultural diversity in tourism.

Design/methodology/approach
A systematic literature review methodology is adopted for this review paper. 3D printing is in the initial phase of implementation in healthcare; therefore, a study of 70 research papers is done, which discusses the research trends of 3D printing in healthcare sector from 2007 to mid-2018.
Findings
Though additive manufacturing has a vast application, it has not been used to its full potential. Therefore, more research is required in that direction. It is revealed from the review that only a few researchers have explored issues related to cost, which can clearly show cost-effectiveness of adopting 3D printing.
Originality/value
This paper helps in understanding the different 3D printing techniques and their application in the healthcare. It also proposed some methods which can be applied in delivering customized pharmaceuticals to the customer and to improve surgery.

Abstract
Purpose
Innovation is an engine that drives the organization and allows it to outcompete in the economic environment. This paper aims to analyze scientific publications between 1980 and January 2021 concerning innovation indicators at organizational and individual levels. The study identifies 11 unique indicators to evaluate innovation, thus enhancing existing knowledge in the domain.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 175 randomly selected journal articles were systematically analyzed.
Findings
While innovation has received significant attention in the commercial sector, the focus on the construct in academic research has remained relatively narrow. The analysis offers a comprehensive view of innovation drivers at an organizational and individual level.
Research limitations/implications
The literature review offers a deeper understanding of the indicators of innovation impacting organizational performance.
Originality/value
The analysis and methodology discussed aim to assist managers, researchers and policymakers in comprehending the various innovation indicators; such understanding may enhance individual and organizational efficiency.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the impact of the intangible intensity of the firm on the relevance of research and development (R&D) information to determine equity values in India. Additionally, the study compares the association of input information on R&D investment (the reported R&D cost) and output information on R&D investment (patent count) with equity values. Further, the study also examines the operational nature of the firm and patent count, which is the better proxy to measure the intangible intensity of the firm.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors compared the explanatory power of R&D information between intangible and non-intangible intensive firms. To estimate the value relevance of R&D information, the authors followed the statistical model based on the theoretical framework of the residual income model.
Findings
The results indicate that there is a significant moderating impact of the intangible intensity of the firm on the relevance of R&D information to determine equity values in India over the 25 years study period (from 1991 to 2016). Further, in India, the study finds that the input information of R&D outlay is more relevant than output information on R&D outlay to determine equity values, irrespective of the proxy measure of intangible intensity. Moreover, the study finds that the operational nature of the firm is a better proxy of the intangible intensity of the firm compared to patent counts.
Research limitations/implications
In this study, pooled cross-sectional data were used for analysis. In the future, longitudinal and panel data can be used for more insightful results.
Practical implications
The findings of the study provide direction to investors and creditors to find the intrinsic value of the investments in internally developed intangible assets, which will reduce the asymmetry between the market value and accounting value of equity.
Originality/value
The paper offers insights into the impact of intangible intensity on the relevance quality of R&D information in an emerging country.
