Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is the development of an efficient approach for extraction of the microwave FET noise wave temperatures.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed approach is based on an artificial neural network (ANN) trained to determine the noise wave temperatures from the given measured transistor noise parameters.
Findings
The presented approach enables not only efficient, but also an accurate direct extraction of the noise wave temperatures. This is confirmed by the validation of the proposed approach that is done by comparison of the transistor noise parameters obtained using the extracted noise wave temperatures with the measured noise parameters.
Originality/value
Application of ANN is a novel approach to extract the noise wave temperatures, which provides more efficient microwave FET noise wave modeling.

Knowledge of the microwave transistor parameters at various bias conditions is often required in computer‐aided design of complex microwave low‐noise circuit. Since the measurements of noise parameters are very complex and time‐consuming, microwave circuit designers usually use the catalogues' data or noise models. The noise data that can be found in the catalogues are often limited to a few frequencies and to one or few bias points. Further, most of the existing noise models require recalculation of elements/parameters of an equivalent circuit for every bias point. Microwave HEMT transistor noise prediction based on a multilayer perceptron neural network, proposed in this paper, enables noise prediction for all operating points over a wide frequency range. Neural networks are trained to learn noise parameters' dependence on bias conditions and frequency. After network training, noise prediction for a specified bias point requires only a network response calculation without changes in the network structure.

Abstract
A convenient form of spatial‐domain Green’s function for a point charge in multilayered dielectric medium enclosed by a conducting cylinder of circular cross‐section is presented in this paper. Green’s function expression is obtained by solving Poisson differential equation in cylindrical coordinates and applying analogies with multistep electrical transmission lines. Convergence of the proposed expression obtained in the form of a double infinite sum is investigated and compared with triple‐sum solution for the same problem obtained by standard variable separation method. The numerical investigation has shown that the proposed expression has much faster convergence than the standard solution. Also, contrary to the variable separation method, increasing the number of dielectric layers is not an obstacle in determining of proposed Green’s functions, as it is shown for the three layers dielectric structure.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine how gender diversity and women’s empowerment influence the performance of family entrepreneurships and explores the role of firm characteristics as a moderating factor.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used a structured questionnaire as the survey tool to collect data from 91 women managers working in family entrepreneurships, which originated from entrepreneurial initiatives, located in various Lebanese regions. The validity of the construct was assumed using the fitness of extracted index, incremental fit-index, non-normal fit-index, root mean square of residuals and standard root mean square residual. Composite reliability, Cronbach's alpha and value confirmatory factor analysis were used to measure the internal consistency. Data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling method.
Findings
This study reveals that gender equality, education level and family support significantly affect women's empowerment while an insignificant association was found between empowerment and earning social status and achieving financial independence. This paper also showed a significant interaction between women’s empowerment and the performance of family entrepreneurships. Additionally, the results showed that women holding managerial positions in family entrepreneurships is positively associated with firm performance. Finally, it was concluded that the location of the family firm moderates the relationship between gender diversity and firm performance.
Originality/value
This research contributes to theory and practice regarding the role of women in family entrepreneurships and sheds light on gender differences influencing family entrepreneurships and women empowerment issues.

Purpose
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are critical in the global business environment, yet they face significant challenges of survival. This study aims to investigate the role of continuous learning and resilience dynamic capabilities (RDC) on SME performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors conducted a quantitative survey of leaders from 290 SMEs to examine the relationship between continuous learning and performance. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is used to test the dependent relationships in this study. In addition, the Monte Carlo Method is used to test the mediating effect of RDC.
Findings
The results suggest that there is a direct effect of continuous learning on firm performance, as well as an indirect effect through RDC. In other words, the effect of continuous learning on firm performance was partially mediated through RDC.
Originality/value
The authors also explored whether firm life cycle stage matters regarding the role of continuous learning and RDC in SMEs. The mediating role of RDC becomes more pronounced (fully mediated) as SMEs transition from the growth stage to maturity stage of their life cycle.

Abstract
This chapter compares the historical development and current state of comparative pedagogy (CP) in four Slavonic South East European Countries – Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia. The authors also aim to put the historical background and contemporary developments of CP as a science and academic discipline in their countries on the worldwide comparative education (CE) map.
The chapter starts with a short definition of the two streams of CP development: the practical problem-solving nature of comparative studies; and the development of academic CP as a separate branch of the science of pedagogy. The history of CP in the four countries is divided into four historical periods: (1) 19th century until World War I (1918); (2) interwar years (1919–1941); (3) from 1945 until 1989; (4) from 1989 to the present. The development of CP during each period is examined in both national and comparative aspects and is analyzed within the appropriate political, social, and economic context. Some scientific-pedagogical factors are also discussed, with the goal of providing a better understanding of the specific features of CP in the individual countries and in the region as a whole. On the one hand, the analysis shows common characteristics in CP development, mostly influenced by the fact that the historical development of the science of pedagogy (accompanied by the teacher training tradition and the education system structure) was strongly influenced by German theoretical and practical pedagogy in all SSEE countries. On the other hand, the comparison reveals some differences, especially between Bulgaria and the former Yugoslavia.
