Abstract
Neste, the Finnish national oil company, responded to the oil crisis of the 1980s by instituting Challenge ′90, a comprehensive development programme for every employee. According to results so far it has been successful in reducing labour turnover and absenteeism and in increasing employee initiatives. The aims and content of the programme are outlined.
