Abstract
Develops the view that human resource management is a central strategic and operational concern within the tourism and hospitality industries, with implications for quality and market positioning of tourism at local, regional and national levels. Suggests that all stakeholders, be they public or private sector, visitor or host community, would benefit from a close integration of human resource, labour market and education policies. Presents two studies which substantiate this view: one which generally examines policies for human resource development, and another which addresses the policy issues involved.

Describes a framework which is being used to study consultation between the makers of tourism and education policy at a national level. The framework advocates the development and implementation of a specific tourism education policy, to bring tourism education closer in line with national tourism policies. Concludes by outlining further research strategies.

Abstract
Classic education is mainly marked by what experts dubbed as “Cartesian dualism,” which punctuates the rational planning (mind) should subordinate emotions (body). In tourism education, Cartesian dualism occupies a central position populating in the academic curricula. Of course, over the recent years, some voices have alerted on the problems of tourism education in training the new tourism staff. Pregraduate students are often subject to excessive working hours, low-paid salaries without mentioning the lack of answers to respond to the global risks the industry often faces. This suggests that classic tourism education should be at least revisited. PANCOE is a successful experiment with basis on Joy Labs (University of Palermo, Argentina) that combines pleasurable techniques and practices to stimulate students’ academic performance while reducing drop-out rates. PANCOE alternates with digital technologies, smelling and tasting dishes, to enhance creativity and entrepreneurship. Originally designed to be applied to foreign students coming from neighboring countries who live alone in Buenos Aires, PANCOE shows promising results to be conducted over psychologically deprived students. Lastly, PANCOE centers efforts in consolidating local food heritage while cooking local dishes or baking pieces of bread or cookies where students come from.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine how linkages between information and communication technology (ICT) and remittances affect the doing of business.
Design/methodology/approach
The focus is on a panel of 49 Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries for the period 2000–2012. The empirical evidence is based on the generalized method of moments.
Findings
While the authors establish some appealing results in terms of net negative effects on constraints to the doing of business (i.e. time to start a business and time to pay taxes), some positive net effects are also apparent (i.e. number of start-up procedures, time to build a warehouse and time to register a property). The authors also establish ICT penetration thresholds at which the unconditional effect of remittances can be changed from positive to negative, notably: for the number of start-up procedures, an internet level of 9.00 penetration per 100 people is required, while for the time to build a warehouse, a mobile phone penetration level of 32.33 penetration per 100 people is essential. Practical and theoretical implications are discussed.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to assess linkages between ICT, remittances and doing business in SSA.

Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to see the effects of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on a firm's innovation performance in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The objective of this study is twofold: First, it aims to analyze the impact of ICT applications on firms' innovative behavior and whether firms using ICT applications more intensively are also more innovative. Second, and more essentially, it assesses empirically the impact of ICT applications on firms' innovative performance in sub-Saharan African countries by using instrumental variable probit model. Therefore, we used data from the 2013 enterprise survey (Business Environment and Enterprise Performance Survey (BEEPS)). According to our results, the most important ICT tools are emails and using the internet for online sales. Firms who have IT Teams are not creating any difference; however, if a firm purchase or develop in-house any software then they are more likely to produce innovation than the other firms.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to analyze the impact of technology and innovation on businesses’ internationalization process as well as the relationship between innovation and technology and internationalization.
Design/methodology/approach
The study was based on quantitative analysis of secondary data from 30 economies in Europe and Central Asia, extracted from the Enterprise Surveys – The World Bank database, using the multivariate statistical techniques of multiple linear regression and cluster analysis.
Findings
The results suggest that innovation and technology (I&T) mutually and positively influence the internationalization of firms. In this sense, innovative firms are more successful in competing internationally and exposure to alternative business contexts culminates in innovation. The results suggest a positive relationship between the percentage of firms that introduced a process innovation, the percentage of firms with websites and the businesses’ internationalization.
Originality/value
The originality of this research is based on the methodological approach that allowed the identification of the most significant variables for stimulating the internationalization of firms based on innovation and technology. Given the predominance of economies with higher I&T and internationalization in Europe, it is proposed as future research projects to ascertain the reasons for such a phenomenon.

Sexual harassment, a global concern, varies in prevalence across sectors. This article analyzes in detail the higher prevalence of harassment in these sectors.
Design/methodology/approach
Drawing on data from a representative sample of European workers and using the inductive method, we posit four propositions regarding the organizational dynamics in four different sector-specific scenarios.
Findings
Contrary to perception, our research finds no conclusive evidence supporting a higher prevalence of sexual harassment within the armed forces. Economic and labor conditions drive sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, while the hospitality and non-profit sectors exhibit an elevated incidence potentially attributed to environmental factors. The healthcare industry presents a concerning scenario, with heightened prevalence due solely to organizational.
Originality/value
The originality of the paper is in its focus on how external and environmental factors, rather than just internal organizational mechanisms, contribute to sector-specific dynamics of sexual harassment. This approach provides deeper insights for developing tailored interventions and prevention strategies across different sectors.
