Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the corrosion behavior of as‐cryorolled and cryorolled‐short annealed commercially pure aluminum (CP‐Al) in 3.5 percent NaCl solution.
Design/methodology/approach
Cast and homogenized CP‐Al samples are cryorolled from 7 to 0.7 mm at −80°C. Samples are short annealed at 125, 150 and 175°C for 3 min. Transmission electron microscope studies are performed to understand the effect of cryorolling and short annealing on microstructure. Corrosion behavior of these samples in 3.5 percent NaCl solution is evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization studies.
Findings
Though cryorolling adversely affects corrosion resistance of CP‐Al, short annealing can restore the loss in corrosion resistance partially by the recovery process. The extent of restoration of loss in corrosion resistance by short annealing is influenced by the texture.
Originality/value
The results obtained by this investigation help in understanding the effect of cryorolling and short annealing on corrosion behavior of CP‐Al.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the corrosion behaviour of Al-12Zn-3Mg-2.5Cu alloy by cast, precipitation hardening and non-isothermal step rolling cum cold/cryo rolling (−80 and −196°C) in 3.5 per cent NaCl solution.
Design/methodology/approach
Aluminium alloy with high alloying concentration (Zn: 12 per cent, Mg: 3 per cent, Cu: 2.5 per cent) was prepared by squeeze casting method with controlled process parameters. The cast alloy was solution treated at 450°C for 24 h and aged at 120°C with varying time intervals. Initially, the alloy also underwent non-isothermal step rolling from 6 mm to 3 mm at 400-100°C at the step of 100ºC with 15% reduction in thickness. Non-isothermal rolled alloy (3 mm thickness) was the starting material for further rolling at three different temperatures, such as room temperature, −80 and −190°C with 85 per cent reduction. Microstructural evolution during precipitation and thermo-mechanical processing was studied with the help of optical microscopy and electron microscopy. A potentio-dynamic polarization study was performed to evaluate the corrosion behaviour of Al-12Zn-3Mg-2.5Cu alloy processed in different conditions in 3.5 per cent NaCl solution.
Findings
There is a distinct evidence that the alloy exhibits varying corrosion resistance by changing its structural features. In fact, the alloy with ultra-fine grained structure exhibits good corrosion resistance than that of alloy in cast. This is attributed to a greater grain boundary region with high dislocation density, and plastic strain adversely affects the corrosion resistance.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide a way to analyze satellite images using various clustering algorithms and refined bitplane methods with other supporting techniques to prove the superiority of RIFCM.
Design/methodology/approach
A comparative study has been carried out using RIFCM with other related algorithms from their suitability in analysis of satellite images with other supporting techniques which segments the images for further process for the benefit of societal problems. Four images were selected dealing with hills, freshwater, freshwatervally and drought satellite images.
Findings
The superiority of the proposed algorithm, RIFCM with refined bitplane towards other clustering techniques with other supporting methods clustering, has been found and as such the comparison, has been made by applying four metrics (Otsu (Max-Min), PSNR and RMSE (40%-60%-Min-Max), histogram analysis (Max-Max), DB index and D index (Max-Min)) and proved that the RIFCM algorithm with refined bitplane yielded robust results with efficient performance, reduction in the metrics and time complexity of depth computation of satellite images for further process of an image.
Practical implications
For better clustering of satellite images like lands, hills, freshwater, freshwatervalley, drought, etc. of satellite images is an achievement.
Originality/value
The existing system extends the novel framework to provide a more explicit way to analyze an image by removing distortions with refined bitplane slicing using the proposed algorithm of rough intuitionistic fuzzy c-means to show the superiority of RIFCM.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to show that the growing global trend of quality assurance indicates the potential of precast concrete (PC) to improve construction quality and productivity, reduce wasteful construction, and achieve design standardization and to accelerate construction time. However, its current approach for dynamic characteristics, such as stiffness and displacement on beam-column connection system design, is not effective in achieving the required quality and operational requirements.
Design/methodology/approach
A design tool based on the literature and data analysis in product planning and safety is proposed for the practice of PC building construction.
Findings
The results reveal the need for improvement of PC building performance in the construction industry, especially for the beam-column connection system. The issues include improper design, improper specification and defective concrete and steel components compared to other manufacturing methods.
Originality/value
A novel and sophisticated technique based on physical internet-enabled building information modeling (PI-BIM) is proposed to improve the planning process and safety for PC buildings in Malaysia.

Purpose
As a strand in industrialization movement in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, prefabricated construction (PC) has gained widespread popularity due to high efficiency, energy saving, low environmental impacts, safety and other advantages of PC. Well-managed supply chain can further leverage the advantages of PC. However, there is a lack of more systematically overview of the prefabricated construction supply chain (PCSC). This paper aims to comb the current status and look into the future direction of PCSC by reviewing the existing research.
Design/methodology/approach
In total, 131 articles related to prefabricated construction supply chain management (PCSCM) from 2000 to 2022 have been collated to (1) conduct a bibliometric analysis by using VOSviewer, including the literature sources, keywords co-occurrence, co-authorships, authorship citation and country active in the field of PCSCM; (2) classify and summarize the status of research in PCSCM through qualitative discussion and (3) point out the future research directions.
Findings
In total, 131 articles are carried out for bibliometric analysis and in-depth qualitative discussion, the visualization maps and the main research themes in the field of PCSCM are obtained. The results show that supply chain intelligentization and informatization are hot topics. Finally, future research directions that should be paid attention to in the field of PCSCM are pointed out.
Practical implications
This study can help project managers understand the current status and problems of PCSC operations and provide a basis for future management decisions.
Originality/value
Compared with previous studies, this study adds the dimension of “article authorship” to the quantitative analysis and discusses the research themes in the field of PCSCM in a comprehensive manner. In addition, this paper deeply discusses the main research topics from both the specific contents and research methods adopted.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the mediation effect of employee engagement on the relationship between employer obligations, employee obligations and state of the psychological contract and employee discretionary behaviours.
Design/methodology/approach
The empirical data were collected using self-administered questionnaires with 278 participants from 11 commissions and three agencies in the public service in Uganda. The authors used hierarchical regression analysis to investigate the hypotheses.
Findings
The results indicate that employer obligations, employee obligations and state of the psychological contract were positively related to employee discretionary behaviours. In addition, employee engagement was found to be a partial mediator between employee obligations, employer obligations and state of the psychological contract and discretionary behaviours among for both subordinate and supervisory staffs.
Originality/value
Since little is known about the process by which public service commissions and agencies in Uganda promote employer obligations, employee obligations and state of the psychological contract on discretionary behaviours, this paper contributes to the literature by examining human resource management practices in a developing country context.

Abstract
Purpose
In the past decade, the rapid globalisation and modernisation has resulted in an increased focus of organisations on implementation of family friendly work–life balance (WLB) policies for enhancing employee retention. The purpose of this study is to review the importance of WLB policies and programmes and its impact on organisational outcomes.
Design/methodology/approach
Using Deery’s (2008) framework as the conceptual framework, the current study attempts to provide an integrated literature review of the empirical studies conducted in the area of WLB and employee retention in India for a decade from 2007 till 2017.
Findings
The analysis of the extant literature revealed that the research on WLB for Indian organisations really surged since 2013. Most of the empirical studies conducted in this area use a positivist paradigm. Numerous industry sectors including the information technology (IT) and business process outsourcing sectors have benefitted from WLB policies, but the banking and higher education sector have generously implemented employee-friendly WLB policies.
Practical implications
The study stresses upon the implementation of employee friendly WLB policies for achieving high organisational outcomes. Furthermore, the findings may be useful for human resource management and human resource development professionals to understand and appreciate the organisational components, settings that are necessary to facilitate better WLB in Indian organisations, thereby resulting in better organisational outcomes.
Originality/value
The study provides us with a comprehensive review of different WLB studies conducted in India till date and its possible impact on various organisational outcomes.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper focuses on bridging the existing literature gap on the role of leadership in influencing employee engagement considering the advancement in technologies. With this, the author explores how the three critical elements of service-based companies' business environment-artificial intelligence (AI) success, employee engagement, and leadership are interlinked and are valuable for raising the engagement level of employees.
Design/methodology/approach
A purposive sampling strategy was used to select the employees working in the respective companies. The survey was distributed to 150 senior management employees but responses were received from only 56 employees making the response rate 37.33%. Consequently, an empirical examination of these 56 senior management employees belonging to service-based companies based in Delhi NCR using a survey questionnaire was conducted.
Findings
The PLS-SEM (partial least squares structured equation modelling) revealed that AI has a positive role in affecting employee engagement levels and confirmed the mediation of leadership. The magnitude of the indirect effect was negative leading to a reduction in total effect magnitude; however, as the indirect effect model has a higher R square value, the inclusion of a mediating variable made the model more effective.
Research limitations/implications
This study contributes to extending the existing knowledge of the academicians about the relationship theory of leadership, AI implementation in organizations, AI association with leadership and AI impact on employee engagement. The author extends the theoretical understanding by showing that more integration of AI-supported leadership could enable organizations to enhance employee experience and motivate them to be engaged. Despite its relevance, due to the limited sample size, focus on a specific geographic area (Delhi NCR) and the constraint of only using quantitative analysis, the findings open the scope for future research in the form of qualitative and longitudinal studies to identify AI-supported leadership roles.
Practical implications
The study findings are beneficial majorly for organizations to provide them with more in-depth information about the role of AI and leadership style in influencing employee engagement. The identified linkage enables the managers of the company to design more employee-tailored strategies for targeting their engagement level and enhancing the level of productivity of employees. Moreover, AI-supported leadership helps raise the productivity of employees by amplifying their intelligence without making technology a replacement for human resources and also reducing the turnover rate of employees due to the derivation of more satisfaction from existing jobs. Thus, given the economic benefit and societal benefits, the study is relevant.
Originality/value
The existing studies focused on the direct linkage between AI and employee engagement or including artificial intelligence as a mediating variable. The role of leadership is not evaluated. The leadership enables supporting the easy integration of AI in the organization; therefore, it has an important role in driving employee engagement. This study identifies the contribution of leadership in organizations by providing the means of enhancing employee satisfaction without hampering the social identity of the company due to the integration of AI.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to identify and prioritize the dimensions that impact employee social sustainability in the airline industry in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Design/methodology/approach
The five main criteria (employee well-being, communication, management support, reward and control system and training) and 18 sub-criteria were identified from the literature. The sample comprised four experts covering the HR, finance and training functions from a major UAE airline organization. Applying the analytical-hierarchy-process (AHP) methodology resulted in obtaining priority weights for the factors assigned to employee-social-sustainability implementation.
Findings
Management support was found to have the highest priority among the study dimensions impacting employee social sustainability. Surprisingly, reward system was found to be the least important dimension.
Research limitations/implications
The study was carried out on a single airline organization, limiting the generalizability of the findings. Future studies should be extended to cater to different organizational contexts and varying operational conditions.
Practical implications
The findings should be of value to human resource management and policymakers in developing countries, such as the UAE, where employee social sustainability should be sought as a means to develop an efficient and sustainable workforce in different industrial sectors.
Originality/value
This study is among the few pioneering studies that focus on employee social sustainability. The use of AHP to prioritize employee-social-sustainability dimensions is also considered pioneering within the field and is anticipated to support future studies, and a deeper understanding, of employee social sustainability.

Abstract
Purpose
The study aims to understand the association between subjective well-being, psychological well-being, work satisfaction and engagement amongst middle-level hospitality managers.
Design/methodology/approach
The data were collected from 624 middle-level hospitality managers working in two corporate hotel chains across five north-western states of India. Structural equation modelling (SEM) with a covariance-based approach (CB-SEM) was implemented using SPSS AMOS, adhering to a two-step process that included both measurement and structural models. The application of CB-SEM primarily aimed to (1) evaluate the cascading impacts across constructs and (2) scrutinise the concurrent relationships amongst constructs, with a specific focus on well-being (both psychological and subjective), context-specific job satisfaction and work engagement.
Findings
Evidently, the post-COVID-19 scenario found to be challenging for the hospitality industry. Thus, this empirical research posits that subjective and psychological well-being positively influences work engagement via work satisfaction as a mediator.
Originality/value
Given the people orientation in the hospitality sector, the research contributes to the existing body of literature by assessing the relationships between psychological and subjective well-being, work satisfaction and engagement amongst middle-level hotel managers employed in the corporate chain of hotels in India.
