Abstract
Purpose
This study explores the potential role of improvisation capability in enhancing organizational resilience. Additionally, this paper unravels novel strategies to support the development of organizational improvisation capability.
Design/methodology/approach
An in-depth review of the latest development of organizational resilience and improvisation provided insight into the linkages between the concepts. The current literature gap provides reasons to discuss the latest strategies to foster improvisation capability to amplify organizational resilience.
Findings
This study identifies the pertinent role of improvisation capability in amplifying organizational resilience and discusses various feasible strategies to cultivate organizational improvisation capability.
Originality/value
This research provides valuable insights to help organizations remain resilient in a disruptive environment. The study also offers cutting-edge strategies to nurture improvisation capability as a way forward to drive organizational resilience.

Design/methodology/approach
A review of the relevant articles and current development in the area of organizational resilience and collective mindfulness provided an in-depth understanding and valuable insights into how collective mindfulness can be utilized to engender organizational resilience in the challenging business world.
Findings
This paper provides a brief overview over the crucial role of collective mindfulness capability in augmenting organizational resilience. Additionally, the processes of collective mindfulness and the essential contexts for developing and sustaining this capability is also unveiled.
Originality/value
The paper offers practical solutions for the anxiety faced by many organizations around the globe due to the relentless disruptions by highlighting on the potential role of collective mindfulness. Abstract
Purpose
The manufacturing sector is well known for its significance in upholding the economic prosperity of many nations. However, in today's unprecedented environment, the resilience of this sector has become vulnerable to relentless catastrophic events, thus gaining a serious concern among the economies driven by this sector. Albeit the various determinants, human capital emerges as the widely accepted core factor that holds the key to proliferate organisational resilience. Therefore, the present systematic literature review seeks to intensify the understanding of the link between human capital and organisational resilience in the manufacturing context.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper systematically reviews the studies converging human capital and organisational resilience in the context of manufacturing from the year 2011 to 2021 based on the PRISMA protocol. A bibliographic coupling analysis was carried out using VOSviewer software to expose the main research themes and trends concerning the relationship.
Findings
The bibliographic coupling analysis discovered links between publications to produce a framework outlining a holistic state-of-art of the literature intersecting human capital and organisational resilience. The analysis identified main research themes by clustering the prior studies into seven groups, which describe the direction of the literature.
Originality/value
This study offers a novel framework and in-depth understanding to the research community to delve into the interrelationship between human capital and organisational resilience research. Guided by the gaps in the literature, a set of outstanding avenues for the forthcoming studies are also proposed.

Abstract
Purpose
Open innovation is regarded as the driven factor for organizational resilience, but open innovation's role and effect mechanism in leveraging organizational resilience has been limited explored. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationships between two types of open innovation and organizational resilience and the mediating effect of intellectual capital on open innovation and organizational resilience.
Design/methodology/approach
After a literature review, a research model including open innovation, intellectual capital and organizational resilience is proposed. Survey data are collected from information and communication technologies (ICT) sector in China and analyzed by using partial least squares–structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and Bootstrapping procedure to present results of each hypothesis test.
Findings
Results indicate that inbound open innovation has a significant and direct impact on organizational resilience, while outbound open innovation has not. In addition, all three dimensions of intellectual capital were significantly correlated with organizational resilience and had mediating roles in the indirect effect of inbound open innovation and organizational resilience. Nevertheless, only social capital played a mediating role in the relationship between outbound open innovation and organizational resilience.
Originality/value
The study explores the relationships among open innovation, intellectual capital and organizational resilience in a comprehensive model, which is the first known study to highlight that open innovation can enhance organizational resilience through intellectual capital, and provides valuable suggestions for improving organizational resilience.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate, from a thorough review of the literature, the role of metaverse-based quality 4.0 (MV-based Q4.0) in achieving manufacturing resilience (MFGRES). Based on a categorization of MV-based Q4.0 enabler technologies and MFGRES antecedents, the paper provides a conceptual framework depicting the relationship between both areas while exploring existing knowledge in current literature.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper is structured as a comprehensive systematic literature review (SLR) at the intersection of MV-based Q4.0 and MFGRES fields. From the Scopus database up to 2023, a final sample of 182 papers is selected based on the inclusion/exclusion criteria that shape the knowledge base of the research.
Findings
In light of the classification of reviewed papers, the findings show that artificial intelligence is especially well-suited to enhancing MFGRES. Transparency and flexibility are the resilience enablers that gain most from the implementation of MV-based Q4.0. Through analysis and synthesis of the literature, the study reveals the lack of an integrated approach combining both MV-based Q4.0 and MFGRES. This is particularly clear during disruptions.
Practical implications
This study has a significant impact on managers and businesses. It also advances knowledge of the importance of MV-based Q4.0 in achieving MFGRES and gaining its full rewards.
Originality/value
This paper makes significant recommendations for academics, particularly those who are interested in the metaverse concept within MFGRES. The study also helps managers by illuminating a key area to concentrate on for the improvement of MFGRES within their organizations. In light of this, future research directions are suggested.

Purpose
This study aims to provide a new vision for investigating the different human resources management (HRM) practices in hotels after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Design/methodology/approach
A quantitative research approach was adopted using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling to reveal updated priorities and relations as stated by 504 hospitality employees.
Findings
The research approach contributed to highlighting exciting findings, as training and development (T&D) had an insignificant effect on turnover intention (IT) or affective organizational commitment (AOC) following the COVID-19 pandemic; job security (JS) had the highest impact on AOC and compensation had the highest effect on TI.
Practical implications
Individual HRM practices have different strong impacts on employee outcomes. This paper provides human resource directors with realistic and practical implications to boost individuals' AOC and reduces their intention to quit their job in conditions of uncertainty and ambiguity.
Originality/value
This pioneering study reveals the influence of HRM practices in the hospitality HRM systems regarding employee attitudes and behaviors, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides novel theoretical and practical contributions.

Abstract
Purpose
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of flexibility-oriented human resource management (FHRM) systems on intellectual capital and organizational resilience. This study also examines the moderating effect of digital capability on the relationship between intellectual capital and organizational resilience.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from 219 Chinese businesses in the Yangtze River Delta region of China during the COVID-19 pandemic. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to verify the validity and reliability of the measurements, and hypotheses were tested using hierarchical regression.
Findings
The empirical results show that FHRM systems are positively correlated with intellectual capital and organizational resilience. Intellectual capital mediates the link between FHRM systems and organizational resilience. Moreover, digital capability serves as a positive moderator between intellectual capital and organizational resilience.
Originality/value
From the perspectives of resilience theory, the resource-based view and the theory of dynamic capabilities, this study is among the first to identify the process mechanism by which FHRM systems affect organizational resilience through intellectual capital. Digital capability is introduced as a situational factor for understanding the effect of intellectual capital on organizational resilience, which provides new insights for further research.

Purpose
This paper aims to examine the relationship between different dimensions of intellectual capital and industrial companies' financial performance. In addition, this paper aims to examine the role of organisational ambidexterity in mediating this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper adopted a quantitative method using a previously validated questionnaire. The questionnaire copies have been distributed to accountants and accounting managers in the context of industrial companies.
Findings
Findings indicate that there is a positive correlation between all dimensions of intellectual capital and organisational ambidexterity. Furthermore, the connection between intellectual capital dimensions and financial performance is notably positive when it comes to relational capital. Additionally, it was established that the various dimensions of capital and financial performance are interconnected through the intermediary influence of organisational ambidexterity.
Originality/value
This paper provides important contributions to managers, policymakers and stakeholders. Jordanian industrial companies must improve the quality of their work by enhancing levels of intellectual capital and organisational ambidexterity that leads to improving the financial performance of companies. Additionally, managers should identify and capitalise on the benefits of other intangible assets and understand more about how to increase the use level of other intangible assets.

Purpose
Adopting sustainable building materials (SBMs) is one way to reduce the negative environmental impacts of the built environment. However, the adoption of SBMs is not as high as expected. This study aims to investigate which factors affect the adoption of SBMs.
Design/methodology/approach
A literature review and discussions with professional practitioners formed an initial list of variables affecting readiness to adopt SBMs. A questionnaire survey was designed, and data from industrial practitioners were collected using the snowball sampling method. The data collected from 218 respondents were analyzed using the PLS-SEM technique.
Findings
The findings show that SBM adoption is critically influenced by readiness at different levels (market, organization, and employee). Specifically, market readiness enhances organization preparedness (beta = 0.628), and organization readiness positively affects employee readiness (beta = 0.510). Market, organization, and employee readiness positively impact the adoption of SBMs (beta = 0.386, 0.364, and 0.158, respectively). Moreover, the relationship between market and employee readiness is fully mediated by organization readiness (indirect effect = 0.320; p = 0.000). Organization readiness positively mediates the relationship between market readiness and SBM adoption (indirect effect = 0.050; p = 0.001). The relationship between organization readiness and SBM adoption is fully mediated by employee readiness (indirect effect = 0.229; p = 0.000). Additionally, employee readiness positively mediates the relationship between market readiness and SBM adoption through organization readiness (indirect effect = 0.080; p = 0.000).
Originality/value
While past studies have predominantly focused on human perception, this study recognizes the importance of contextual factors like market conditions, Organization readiness, and employee readiness in shaping the adoption of SBMs. Thus, it fills a notable void in the literature and highlights the need for a broader theoretical framework that incorporates both individual perceptions and external contextual influences.

Abstract
Purpose
This article identifies and discusses the most common cognitive biases affecting reviewers and editors when they deal with papers, books or any kind of scientific research/project and how they can undermine intellectual capital (IC) in scientific contexts (SCs) as universities and research institutions.
Design/methodology/approach
As we posit that certain biases prevent from publishing original and relevant scientific works, literature research and semi-structured interviews with experts have been conducted to identify these biases undermining IC of SCs.
Findings
This contribution identifies biases undermining IC in SCs distinguishing the ones influencing editors only (representativeness heuristic, group polarization, country/language and affinity bias) and the ones influencing both editors and reviewers (framing and halo effects, overconfidence/overoptimism, confirmation, adjustment, status quo, bias bias and single-action biases). Also, it provides practical examples on how to overcome them.
Research limitations/implications
This work is based on a limited number of interviews (and most of them to researchers of the economic field). Then, future quantitative researches are needed to increase the generalizability of the data. With regard to implications, the results of this study can be adopted by academies and their components in order to preserve their IC and in particular their knowledge-based resources of human capital.
Practical implications
As this piece of research provides practical examples and it concludes with tips that come from scholars’ experience, it is useful for a wide audience of scholars (in particular for less experienced researchers) pursuing scientific career upgrades and for reviewers looking for useful guidelines.
Originality/value
This study offers a more comprehensive analysis on the factors influencing IC of SCs both mixing literature findings with practical experts’ experience and including different areas of knowledge (e.g. behavioral theories on decision making) as scarcely done in previous studies.
