Abstract
Purpose
Strategic flexibility is largely considered a source of competitive advantage, yet strategic flexibility in relation to organizational resources and knowledge management (KM) process capability is not well studied. To address this gap, this study aims to assesses the relationship of organizational resources (technical and social resources) and strategic flexibility through KM process capability.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper is built on the assumptions of the resource-based view and the dynamic capability perspective of firm. Two types of organizational resources – technical and social – were identified from relevant literature. Data were collected from 23 small- and medium-sized firms (family owned firms) using a 37-item questionnaire. In addition to descriptive statistics, multiple hierarchical regressions and bootstrapping were used to test the study hypotheses.
Findings
Findings suggest that organizational resources are positively and significantly related with strategic flexibility, and KM process capability partially mediates these relationships.
Research limitations/implications
The paper adds to strategic flexibility literature by exploring and assessing the linkage of organizational resources with strategic flexibility through KM process capability.
Originality/value
Findings of this research may help organizations and practitioners in enhancing strategic flexibility of firm.

Abstract
Purpose
Indian higher education (HE) is arguably “in the doldrums.” Conformity to minimum standards and requirements combined with ever-eroding quality is the serious threats. Many researchers have suggested adopting a functional approach in universities and developing greater autonomy and accountability to improve the situation. The purpose of this paper is to deliberate on the introduction of an integrated way of making teachers more involved in their profession with the intention of enhancing the quality of education and research.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper’s argument conceptualizes the possibilities of the Indian HE system benchmarking the concept of high-performance teams (HTPs) as practiced in the industry.
Findings
Taking the support from the extant literature, it is proposed that working in HTPs have the potential to elevate the involvement level of the faculty. Furthermore, it is suggested that through the implementation of HTPs in educational settings, teachers would also be able to develop their competencies in relation to research activities.
Originality/value
The model presented in the study has the potential to be empirically tested for its validity and reliability, which opens vistas for future research.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to analyze the relationship between organizational culture (measured by mission, involvement, consistency, adaptability and well-being), employee organizational commitment and employee innovation in the Vietnamese IT industry.
Design/methodology/approach
This is a quantitative research using perceptual scale questionnaire survey developed based on the literature review and in-depth expert interviews. A total of 319 IT professionals working in Vietnam participated in the survey. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis.
Findings
The results suggest that overall organizational culture and organizational commitment are positively and significantly related to employee innovation. A closer look reveals that out of the organizational culture’s five dimensions, mission, adaptability and well-being are found specifically and significantly related to employee innovation.
Research limitations/implications
The study used a cross-sectional survey where case studies of longitudinal study may add more insight. Further, the Denison organizational culture survey instrument might be subjective. Finally, there may be also some moderating or mediating effects that are not taken into account in this study.
Practical implications
The enhancement of adaptability, well-being, mission and commitment can increase employee innovation in the IT industry.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the literature and practice by demonstrating the relationship between corporate culture and organizational commitment on employee innovation in a developing country (i.e. Vietnam).

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to understand the relationships of complementary specialization, cognitive trust, affective trust, tie strength and similarity with group formation intention.
Design/methodology/approach
The data have been collected from 30 management students from a batch of 110 students of a premiere Indian business school. To assess the proposed relationship, multiple hierarchical regression was performed on collected data by using SPSS© 20.
Findings
The obtained results exhibited cognitive trust, affective trust and tie strength as significant predictors of dyadic group formation intention, whereas similarity and complementary specialization were not found.
Originality/value
The research on group formation is limited, and more particularly the functions of the above-mentioned factors on the group formation intentions of management graduates are yet to generalize. Therefore, present research is an early approach which tries to address the mentioned gap from a social network perspective and considers the group formation and social network literature.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to report the results of an experiment undertaken to investigate the effect of country of origin (COO) in shielding the company’s image and retaining the trust and supportive behavioural intentions when it faces a crisis and the interactive effect of COO and the company’s pre-crisis reputation in shielding the company’s image.
Design/methodology/approach
A quasi-experimental study was undertaken to test the proposed hypotheses. Specifically, a two (pre-crisis reputation: low versus high) × two (country of origin: Indian versus Non-Indian) between-subjects factorial experimental design is configured and operationalized.
Findings
The results demonstrate that COO of a company fails to protect trust and supportive behaviour on its own, but, in the presence of a high pre-crisis reputation, it shields trust in the company more effectively. However, the interaction of COO and reputation does not induce supportive behaviour for the company during a crisis.
Originality/value
The findings of this research may help organizations to enhance trust/supportive behaviour toward their brand/company using attributes such as COO and pre-crisis reputation of the company.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the university teaching staff’s perception about functions, benefits and barriers of human resource information system (HRIS). It also aims to explore the relevance of attitudinal/demographic diversity with focused HRIS dimensions.
Design/methodology/approach
A 26-item questionnaire was developed on the basis of similar research studies. Responses were collected through electronic mail from 90 faculty members of seven state universities in India. Descriptive statistics along with t-test and analysis of variance were used to answer the research questions.
Findings
The results of the study reported that HRIS is mostly used for administrative purpose and not taken as strategic requirement. Results also revealed that the perceived functions, benefits and barriers in adoption of HRIS do not vary group-wise.
Research limitations/implications
The findings of the study potentially can help in developing and implementing of HRIS in similar types of organizations.
Originality/value
Past literature on HRIS mainly comes from the developed countries and is confined to for-profit organizations. The present study is among the few that coherently took up the issue from non-profit organizations, i.e. universities of a developing country.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to conduct an investigation into the interaction of three factors: ownership (public and private sector organizations), gender (male and female), and level of manager (senior, middle, junior) in relation to the concept of effectiveness in the Indian context.
Design/methodology/approach
The study is based on a data set of primary responses from 200 Indian executives. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was employed to retrieve and validate the instrument. Finally, 2×2×3 factorial ANOVA (GLM) was performed.
Findings
First, the study proposes a valid and reliable measure of managerial effectiveness. Second, the interaction pattern of predictor variables in relation to managerial effectiveness provides further insights.
Practical implications
Through its empirical evidence the study offers insight into issues of managerial effectiveness and provides suggestions for managerial action.
Originality/value
The study attempted to gather the views of executives regarding issues of productivity, adaptability and flexibility as constructs of managerial effectiveness. Last, comparative analysis of different categories of managers (based on gender, organizational position, and institutional ownership status) provide an understanding of these issues in the Indian context.

Abstract
Purpose
Research on organizational climate has shown a significant upward trend in the recent past. The purpose of the present study is to propose a conceptual model that empirically examines the relationship of dimensions of organizational climate with managerial effectiveness in Indian organizations.
Design/methodology/approach
A data set of 245 managers/executives was collected from Indian organizations through a survey instrument. The collected responses were subsequently tested by using structural equation modeling (SEM). Further, the hypothesized model was tested by employing five stages of hierarchical multiple regressions.
Findings
The findings suggest that organizational climate dimensions, i.e. organizational process, altruistic behaviour, role clarity and communication, results‐rewards orientation and certain aspects of interpersonal relationships play a significant role in increasing managerial effectiveness.
Research limitations/implications
The results indicate ways in which organizations might develop supportive climates in order to reinforce effectiveness of the organizational members.
Originality/value
The role of organizational climate in employee effectiveness is currently under‐researched in the Indian context. The present study is an earnest effort in this direction to analyse the link between organizational climate and managerial effectiveness.

Abstract
Purpose
Innovation goes beyond creation, concentrating on enhancement, which is essential for advancement. Since 1998, the European Journal of Innovation Management (EJIM) has been a leading forum dedicated to thought leadership and research on the advances in innovation management. Given that EJIM has run over two decades, the time is now opportune to reflect on the journal's contributions to innovation management. Thus, this paper aims to retrospectively review the productivity, impact and knowledge of innovation management research in EJIM.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper adopts a bibliometric methodology to engage in a retrospective review of EJIM. The bibliographic data of 757 papers published in EJIM from 1998 to 2021 were retrieved from Scopus and analyzed using performance analysis and science mapping techniques.
Findings
The productivity (publication) and impact (citation) of innovation management research curated by EJIM have grown prolifically over time. Though EJIM operates with a European title, the journal receives and publishes contributions worldwide (e.g. Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania). Noteworthily, the knowledge of innovation management research in EJIM can be divided into four categories: basic themes (general), which comprise innovation, open innovation, new product development and product and process innovation; motor themes (well-developed), which consist of organizational culture and innovation and leadership and creativity; niche themes (very specialized), which include dynamic capabilities and business model innovation; and emerging or declining themes (weakly developed or marginalized), which is made up of research and development (R&D) and green innovation.
Originality/value
This paper offers a seminal retrospection of EJIM and the journal's productivity, impact and contribution to innovation management.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to synthesize the knowledge published in the International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy since its inaugural issue to current issue, i.e. from 1981 to 2021, using a structured and systematic review technique.
Design/methodology/approach
In order to achieve the objective of this paper, the authors have analysed the bibliometric metadata of 1,583 research documents published during the last four decades in International Journal of Sociology and Social Policy by employing a structural and quantitative literature review technique, i.e. bibliometric. Particularly, the authors used performance analysis and network analysis (intellectual and social network analysis).
Findings
Findings reveal the performance metrics, i.e. productivity and citation performance of various constituencies of IJSSP such as authors, institutes, research articles etc. In addition, the authors constituted certain knowledge networks such as keywords co-occurrence, strategic map and social network.
Research limitations/implications
Present systematic and objective review reveals the evolution and pattern of research publication in IJSSP, and this will help in predicting and setting the future course of knowledge creation such as emphasis on a particular theory or framework, reexamining the established assumptions and so on.
Practical implications
In the wake of changing social policy dynamics, the present systematic synthesis helps in understanding the possible emerging areas of concerns both for practitioners and policymakers.
Originality/value
The present study is a first attempt that considers the entire research corpus of the journal and synthesizes it objectively and systematically.
